I have visited nearly all of the "must go to" spots for desserts and ice cream in and around the Capital Region, but I've never come across anything even close to this good outside of New York City for desserts. The layer cakes are absolutely scrumptious, and show inventiveness and imagination, both in creativity and taste. And for the quality, the prices are reasonable. Each variety of dessert displayed under the glass case has a unique name, and a detailed description. Only a couple of the selections have not been to my tastes, but most have been surprisingly better than I thought they'd be. Many different selections are offered daily, in masterful combinations of varying cake bases that sometimes include nuts, and icings, all in such flavors as pistachio, lavendar, peach, kiwi, raspberry, coffee and orange, to name just a few. And of course, there are vanilla and chocolate options, and some gluten-free selections as well. For the most part, these perfectly-sized-portion treats are not heavy, sugar-laden desserts; rather, they tend to be perfectly balanced in both sweetness and flavor, with an emphasis on exquisite artistic detail. They offer pastries and cookies...and they're okay...but the cake is what you ought to be coming here for. I heard they have good gelato, but I haven't tried it yet...maybe next time. I come here more often than I should, but the cakes really hit the spot, and are light years ahead of the game in quality! Kudos to the Crisan baker for these finer desserts at reasonable prices!
