It was 42 floors to the top and a quick ride to the top. The view was spectacular!! Great view of the Adirondacks and the Berkshire Mountains. Definitely worth seeing and its is free.

Very good view of the city & downtown. Be aware there is no elevator on the first floor. If you are travelling with handicap person you need to use a phone to inform that you are visiting with someone who can not take the stairs.

The only bad thing is the windows ... someone need to clean them if you whant to take amazing pictures.

Amidst the Stalin-era Plaza with its stark, cold towers stands this 42 storey monolith, the tallest building in town (and probably in the entire state, not counting NYC).

The observation deck (indoors) offers a great view to the south, east and north. And the express elevator is free. But get there early as it closes as 3:45 pmon weekdays.

This is a great bargain that's easily overlooked. The Tower, one of the high-rises that flanks the beautiful Empire State Plaza, boasts an Observation Deck reached in a dedicated express elevator. Deck is a bit of a misnomer. You're actually able to see the City and its surrounding countryside on all but the North side from a full floor with massive windows. Informative plaques highlight key buildings and other landmarks. There are also binocular stands available at 25c. All at no charge! The views of the State Capitol, Empire State Plaza and the river are superb.

It's free to go up to one of the top floors (the 30th floor, I think?) and check out the view. It's fantastic! You can look out over the Hudson River into Vermont, and you can see from the Adirondacks to the Green Mountains to the Berkshires to the Catskills. Lovely!! (And it's FREE!) Just watch for the limited open hours, which are pretty much 9-5 Monday through Friday.
