Showed everything you wanted to know about New York, then and now. Especially the exhibit about Safe Haven in Oswego, NY

We stopped off in Albany on our way upstate from NYC towards Vermont. We had plans to visit somewhere out of town which fell though. On looking around this seemed to be one of few things to do in Albany so gave it a go even though we arnt really museum people.
There was a good variety of exhibits, including a particularly good one with lots of artifacts from the 9/11 attack. Entry is free, but with a donation box at the entry to exhibits (suggested $5/person, $10/family)
We managed to stroll around for a couple of hours before we got hungry and headed for dinner. The empire state plaza adjacent and the walk way beneath it are both littered with modern art which will extend your visit further if you feel so inclined.
