My sister and I (both 21) were traveling a long distance, and wanted to stop at this museum to look around before starting driving again! We were VERY impressed. We are from Ohio, so it was very informational, although we more came to look around instead of to learn (but we still did!). The exhibits are very nice and the museum is well kept up. We had to quickly walk through the 9/11 exhibit and couldn't spend a long time in that area because we accidentally used all of our time in other areas, but it seemed very impressive. We spent about 1.5 hours there and we would love to go back and see the things we missed. Highly recommended to just look around at cool things (from dinosaurs, to Native Americans, to wildlife, etc!) or to learn more about New York. Cost is nothing, but donations are appreciated.

NY State Museum has a wide range of content in the collection. The displays are laid out well, and you"ll learn a lot in the 2-3 hours you spend here!

Did not know what to expect but was really blown away by the varied exhibits... 9/11 memorial, native Indians, transportation, Adirondack park... And no admission charge. This was a real find and worthy of a day long visit.

I always like taking a day trip to the museum with the family. My spot is the NYS gem display. And they have rotating exhibits, which peeks my interest for revisiting the museum. My daughter loves the carousel. Check out the corning tower's observation deck while in the area.
