Owner description: The New York State Capitol has served as the seat of government for New York since the 1880's. Over 125 years old, the building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectural grandeur. Built by hand of solid masonry, it took 5 architects and 32 years to complete. Over the years meticulous restoration has been done to maintain and protect the Capitol for future generations of New Yorkers.

The NY State Capitol tour is definitely worth your time. The architecture is stunning and the tour guide did an excellent job of explaining not only the architectural features, but also some of the political and historical background that led to those designs. The tour is an hour long, but you can go back and look at any parts that get skimmed over during the tour. If you only have an hour or so (as we did), you'll still find the tour worthwhile.

This building is a national treasure. The architecture is fantastic. The restoration of the over 100 year old building is on going. They are taking care to restore it correctly. It is worth you time to take a free guided tour. The million dollar staircase is a must see.

He would think that the New York State Capitol building was a GOTO place. Well, it is! The building has been restored to a former grandeur and the guided tours are wonderful. Remember, this is New York - The Empire State. When in Albany visit both the New York State Museum and the Albany Institute of History and Art.

Hey I just thought it was a Capitol Bulding but wow what a Capitol building! I loved everyhting about it. Our guide, Matt was excellent. His stories were fascinating. I highly recommend a guided tour of this building as I am still talking about it 3 months later.
