Theaters are very nice but it's not an attraction in and of itself. Musical performances in the Egg are affordable and accessible.

The Egg is unique, on the inside and out. If you go more than once, you may wonder if it is the same place...because there are a couple of theaters inside! The lobby is rounded and painted a deep yellow, like an egg's yoke.Be sure to check out the display near the elevators that shows how the Egg was constructed. There is no other place like it on Earth!! Sound quality is excellent for shows, and intimate for any performance.

My wife and I visit Albany for our honeymoon in Nov. We've visited many small lovely architechture. The Egg and the bean in Chicago are the most impressive ones.

Went to see the Piano Guys, traveled all the way from Maine. Egg is a small venue so all seats are very close to stage. I would make the trip again if a show were of interest. Comfortable seating. A little strange with the elevator only access, but it all flowed well. Empire Plaza was a beautiful setting.

I've gone to a couple shows at The Egg in the last couple months. I would only go back if someone remarkable were playing.

The performance space is quite nice, intimate, plenty of leg room, good sound. There are no bad seats. We sat in the last row when seeing Richard and Teddy Thompson and I didn't feel like we sitting in the cheap seats. The parking was $5 for the show, which I thought was reasonable. And the outside architecture is really cool, if you're into that kind of thing. It looks like a spaceship landed in the middle of downtown Albany.

And now for the not so great stuff. It is difficult to get to, especially if you are already in the surrounding area. Your GPS will not help. The subterranean parking garage is only accessible from the highway. I would strongly recommend studying Google street view closely before attempting an approach. Once inside the building getting to where the shows are is also a trial. There is a series of escalators and elevators that I still don't quite understand. The staff are not much help. They sort of mill around until you stand right in front of them and ask a direct question. When we arrived slightly late to the Richard Thompson show (due to circling the plaza many times trying to get in) we were ushered through a side door and told someone inside would seat us. There was no one to seat us. We stood awkwardly on the staircase with some others in the same situation until Teddy Thompson finished his set. Lastly, the bathrooms are really odd. They are off to the side and very small for the size of the venue they serve.

Richard and Teddy Thompson were both great, though!
