The property changed hands in July of 2009 so one might be hopeful that things will improve at this property but when I visited there in late July, things were still rather bad. On the bright side, there is a wonderful woman employee that seems to take care of most of the operations and she worked for the previous owner and now works for the new owner.
Many of you can stop reading after you read the next sentence: I saw a mouse in the hallway on the second floor.
On the bright side, the location is great and the building is a marvelous historic structure. We had a foam mattress that while cheap was comfortable. The wireless Internet worked well but you will have to ask for the WEP key, that info was not in the room nor offered until requested. Even then it was slightly inaccurate and I had to figure out myself that I had to drop the () signs and dashes from the password provided. The towels do seem to have improved compared to the experience of previous reviewers. That is about all the good things you can say about the property. The hallway carpet is worn. The furniture is shabby. The breakfast was the bare minimum and no tea or granola was served. The back of the property where parking is provided is littered with junk and basically looks like hell. The shower in room 10 where we stayed was shoehorned into a closet and was across the room from the sink and toilet. Tiles in the bathroom were loose and the vanity under the sink was chipped and generally falling apart. The AC unit worked well but was not properly installed into the window so there were gaps around it. Two TV remotes were left in the room but one was for a Satellite TV system that was no longer installed. The TV while large was old and dim. The remote for that TV did not have batteries in it (but they were provided when we asked.) There was a VCR unit on top of the TV that was not hooked up. No DVD player was provided. No phones in the room and no one easily available to help with questions. You better have a cell phone if you want to contact the woman on duty. And when you called, she never answered but you had to leave a message for them to call you back. She did always call back right away. We paid $125 plus tax for a room with two full size beds. You would have to be crazy to stay at this hotel if you had any other choice.
