Owner description: One of Seychelles' two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, this ancient forest is home to the wondrous Coco de Mer palm, which has the largest seed in the world, and many other birds, plants and reptiles, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. Visiting the Vallee de Mai is a step back in time and a unique experience.

you see a different variety of palm trees..you learn about their life..how old they are and stuff
Coco de Mer is an attraction found only on this beautiful Island
but be sure to go with a guide as they explain you everything you need to know

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice walk (you can choose between 1 to 3 km and the going is reasonable. The vegetation is thick and although we spotted a couple of black parrots this was no 'Garden of Eden' in terms of colours ... it was a walk through a tropical palm tree forest.

As we had a car, this was a pleasant hour and a half walk before we moved on to visit Anse Volbert. I wouldn't recommend hiring a guide or paying for a special trip here, but it is worth ticking the box and stretching your legs!

We loved our walk around the Vallee de Mai, you really feel small, it's like stepping into another world. But I must say our visit was spoiled by groups with very loud guides so try to avoid these. The park is quite large so plan a route away from groups to get the best atmosphere. You can visit by bus if you are based on Praslin, bus fares are cheap, but check bus times as they are only once an hour. If you love nature, don't miss.

We went there on a rainy day, the forest was muddy and slippery but this didn't stop us. For the first 30 minutes, it was interesting to see all kind of trees, some of which you don't see anywhere else. However after some time, it started to get boring and we decided to get out of there. If you want to visit, make sure you take a guide unless you really know what you're coming to see. But nevertheless, the trees we saw inside were unique.
