Description: The Plantation House has been lovingly restored based on its original plans, and actually rests on its original foundations. The 200-year-old trees which line the Bilenbi Avenue are untouched and are on the site's original site plans. The property is also home to a beautiful garden from which our chefs proudly source their fresh herbs and spices. Takamaka Bay, our fabulously Seychellois rum, came to life in 2001 and was inspired by the D'Offay family recipe. It is used both in La Plaine St. Andre's bar and kitchen. By day, the grounds of La Plaine provide a tranquil setting for a day away from the beach - our petanque court pays tribute to our French heritage, our garden surrounding the historic ruins is a treasure trove for the nature-lover in you and our distillery is open to be explored from Mondays to Fridays. When the sun sets, the ambience of our restaurant changes dramatically; enjoy an intimate meal in our private dining room or on our softly lit terrace or an Al Fresco dinner under the stars.

“Very Average”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

Setting was nice enough and a bit of live music helped the ambience. the staff were friendly and service was ok. however, the food was at best average. We had Chateaubriand and a steak. The Chateaubriand was the strangest rendition of the dish I have ever encountered. Tasteless and a storage colour. The vegetables were lamentable - the dauphinois potatoes were like concrete. The steak was supposed to come with baked potato, but came with some other potato concoction instead - no explanation as to why. When it came to pudding' we ordered caramelised bananas and rum and raisin ice cream. The ice cream that arrived was vanilla and came with no explanation or excuse. On balance disappointing. If you read some of the reviews on here and expect a culinary treat, you too will be disappointed.

Dear David,

Thank you for your review.

The management team is very sorry that you were so disappointed with your meal.

Chateaubriand is actually not on our usual menu; it is possible that this was part of a temporary menu during a transition period in between menu changes.
Nevertheless the quality of your meal should not have faltered - we do hope that some recent changes to our operations team shall help to ensure consistency in our delivery.

As for the service you experienced, you should have been allowed to choose an alternative for whicher element was not available.
Thank you for pointing this out - your review will be used as a point of reference towards the continous improvement of our restaurant.

With our warmest regards,
Isabelle

“The best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2013

We have been in this restaurant 2 times, and both wre unforgettable, We just needed to be back after the first visit! Ambience is really something special, food is great, traditional but modern. They have nice selection of wines and the most perfect cocktail you can imagine! Our waiter was so nice, same as all of the staff there. Nature all around is beautiful, so you will have very nice and relaxing time there for sure!

“Very Nice! Go there!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2013

We found this place by driving along Mahe island and just stoped there because we need something to eat! Than we found that on this plantage the most famoust rum is made, Takamaka rum is just perfect! The plantage is very big and so nice, there is destilery where you can learn about whole process of rum making and also enjoy very very nice food and wine in their restaurant! This place is so interesting and you can spend whole afternoon there! Go to visit it!

“Best food in Seychelles”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 6, 2013

Came here back in April 2011, not quite sure why I left so long to do this review.....

Anyway this seriously good restaurant at the Takamaka Bay Rum Distillary is bloody brilliant. If you are on the island Mahe you are not going to find anywhere better. OK you are going to pay a little more than anywhere else but you are not nly going to get amazing food, you are going to get fantastic service, an incredibly design restaurant that I would emulate any where in the world, and the Planters Punch...I am now making this at home!

In a nut shell, this restaurant is the nuts! A great place to take your time, be sophisticated, relax and have a beautiful and romantic meal! Stunning!
