We stayed at Ephelia in April, celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary and we enjoyed it very much. It was a good choice to pick this hotel, even though many of the reviews here were not in favor of this hotel.
We stayed in a junior suite close to Adam and Eve restaurant and to the pool. The room was very big with a nice big bathroom and a great balcony with comfortable sofa and armchairs. We used it especially in the evening, enjoying a glass of wine and a good book.
The resort is huge, but we liked walking from one side to the other, after dinner. Gym is good, spa is fantastic. We had two massages and two treatments done and we felt like babies after. They have a beautiful pool, steam room, jacuzzi at the spa, make use of them; it's very quiet and entrance is free. Lemonade was a good treat.
The resort has two beautiful beaches, one in the south and one in the north. We only visited the one in the north, it seemed a bit too crowded for us (locals go there too). We preferred to stay on the south one, to relax. This one is shallow, so if you want to swim I do not recommend it. Didn't make use of the swimming pools at all. We hired a car (which is quite expensive if you book it at the hotel) and visited the island and the beaches. Beautiful landscapes along the road, Grand Anse beach is the one we loved.
The four restaurants at Ephelia are very good, but very expensive. Seselwa was our favorite. Lots of food at breakfast, but no fresh exotic juices as we had expected in such a location. Water is outrageously expensive in the resort's restaurants. A good option for lunch, as we were driving around, was to stop at local restaurants where food is good and also cheap.
Service is extremely poor, they usually don't notice you entering the restaurant and it takes a while until you get acknowledged. They continue chatting, not caring about their guests. We arranged with the waiter to set a table for us and when we were back with the food somebody else was sitting at that table. It happened to us not once. Trainings should be done urgently to these people, they work in a 5* hotel!
The hotel offers lots of trips, we picked two by boat, one of them being to Praslin and la Digue. La Digue is paradise, with superb beaches.
All in all, we enjoyed staying at Ephelia. We wanted to extend our stay, but unfortunately nothing was available at that time. So we booked 2 nights at le Meridien Barbarons which proved to be a bad idea. The resort and the rooms looked old and tired, the food was not appealing at all. If you might think Ephelia has the worst service, go to Barbarons, definitely you'll change your mind. :)

Wonderful for newly weds & a must see overall. Fab restaurant such as collosol (buffet themed nites). However housekeeping indulge in your sweets & champagne in the rooms & please don't trust the miss selling travel agents there in the conference suite. Slow service at the bars but apart from them very minor issues the place is heaven

I've just come back from my honeymoon at the Constane Ephelia and thought I would share my thoughts. First of all the hotel is nice with lovely rooms and a massive bathroom (we stayed in a junior suite). That's the positives over with!!

The hotel in my opionion is over priced £7 for a half of lager is not acceptable and the service in Zee Bar is terrible. Nobody asks you if you want a drink and when you do manage to order one it's hiss and miss if you receive it within half an hour. For a supposed 5 star hotel I tought the service we received was lacking any charm or personal touch. We had recentley got married at the Sugar Beach Hotel in Mauritus and their service was excellent and in stark contrast to the Ephelia.

The buffet breakfast 's are a joke it's like a free for all, we would get seated at a table and go and get some breakfast to come back and find someone else sat at our table and drinking our coffee and the staff wouldn't do anything to stop this. This is also the case on an evening too where other rude guests push in front of you at the food stations and again the serving staff just let them do this whilst you've been waiting in line.

The rep wasn't mush use either we arranged to meet him for a welcome tour where he left us waiting for 40 mins whilst he dealt with other customers that had pushed in from of us. However when we did eventually manage to book a trip around the island I tought this was good and the tour guide Alex was really knoweledgable and friendly.

The service round the pool is rubbish in the whole time that we were there not one member of staff asked us if we wanted a drink again not what we expected for the price we paid to stay here.

The rooms weren't cleaned properley behind the door was caked in dust and hairs from a previous occupant. I spilled some coffe on the floor the first day I arrived and this was still there a week later. The mini bar was also very poor and contained just 2 bottles of over priced lager and no other alcholic drinks which I found stange.

Generally I found the whole stay just very mundane and poorly run and organised. The staff just don't seem to care about their customers and I got the impression that once they had took your money that they couldn't crae less whether you enjoyed your stay. Some of the staff were friendly especially the ones who give you lifts on the golf buggys but on the whole I found the service terrible.

If you want my opinion don't bother staying here you'll just feel irritated by the staff and resent paying the inflated prices when the service is so rubbish.

We had read all the reviews before we went and were slightly worried about some of the comments. All I can say is "dont believe them!!!" Constance Ephelia is a truly amazing place and it is true what they say - IT IS PARADISE. We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversay and my husbands 50th birthday. I had emailed them a few times to let them know and to request a first floor Junior Suite. We flew with the Emirates which was a fantastic airline, although we were delayed in Manchester so arrived a day late in the Seychelles. We were worried that our luggage would not be there nor that our private transfer would be waiting! No worries at all everything was great. The transfer had 2 bottles of water waiting for us and a great air-conditioned vehicle. When we arrived at Constance - WOW !!!! It is an amazing place. The staff were fantastic and so kind and helpful. Jessica took us to our suite - 403!!! Amazing - spectacular and well worth every penny!!! The food was fantastic and we tried all the restaurants - each and every one of them were great and had amazing menus. Our favourite was Helios - the restaurant manager was outstanding - they laid on a special table all decorated with candles and a fantastic meal and gateau on the evening of our anniversary. The staff also suprised us with candles round the bath and petals in the bath - WOW - we felt so special. All the staff were fantastic - no problems at all with the buggies - the guys that drove them were always so polite and friendly. The North beach was amazing - always plenty of room and beds - loads of towels. Yes the drinks are dear - be wise like we were and take in duty free. You really do not need alot to eat for lunch as the breakfasts are fantastic so take some pot noodles, cappuccinos and QT like we did so all you needed was a kettle and we sat on our balcony looking out to sea and having a light lunch!!!! No mosquitos at all so we didnt use any of our sprays or plug ins - the resort sprays the resort every monday and friday - but if you walk between the north and south beach on an evening then expect to get bitten as you go through the natural swampy landscape!!! Always use the buggies which are very frequent!!! Dont believe the previous reports - if we had to wait 5 minutes then I am exaggerating!!! We didnt try the spa as we just loved the beach and needed to relax - but we were told how fantastic it was. We also had pre-dinner cocktails with the resort manager Jean Eric - he was fantastic too. Thank you to you all at Constance for making our 25th Wedding Anniversary so special - guest relations team you are truly amazing - thank you all so much . The only thing we think the resort could change is the size of the departure lounge as there is only room for 2 people to shower at once and a resort that size needs more space/facilities for departing customers .

We stayed here for 7 nights in a junior suite for the second leg of our honeymoon, (the first leg being the Madinat, Dar Al Masyaf in a Summer House, which was exceptional!). Maybe we were slightly spoilt by the first leg of our honeymoon in Dubai which was brilliant... I don't know, we compared this place to 'The Residence' in Mauritius to which we've been before, and that was far better on all levels...

We found the resort facilities to be 5*, new tennis courts, good gym, nice pools, many restaurants with good a la carte food, and well stocked and many choices in the buffets in the main restaurant for half board meals, comfortable loungers, free kayaks, free snorkelling equipment etc etc. All this was as you would expect, from a 5* resort.

Our room was well appointed, the best part of it IMO being the in-room mini mac entertainment system with games, a good selection of movies and music, free web browser, usb drive connectivity etc for showing your photos on the large TV, this was the best system I've ever come across in a resort to date! The room itself had all the other facilities you would expect and was generally a nice place to be except for the fact that the extractor fan in our bathroom was very loud and kept us up the first night, and there was no way for us to turn it off!! We had to contact reception the next day to get it shut off.

However something wasn't quite right with the service... examples...
On the first night I wanted some matches to light a cigarette at about 10pm I went to the bar to ask for some, and was told they don't have any I'd need to wait until morning to go to the shops, I also asked the same question at reception and was told the same thing. I found this a little wierd, a 5* resort with no matches or a lighter available? Or were the staff just being 3* staff who didn't want to help?
Some of the staff were very nice, very pleasant and exactly as you would expect, but they were overshadowed by other staff who didn't fit... they'd talk too much, act like your friend rather than a professional hotelier and in some instances give the impression that they'd rather be doing something better / else with their time!!

To sum up, 5* facilities with 3* service.

Stayed for 10 nights in a Beach Villa, IF you can afford these Villas it is really an experience, however the senior Suites are also well appointed.

As has been stated in some other reviews some of the staff seemed to have a chip on their shoulder, but overall they were very polite and helpful.

We have been to numerous Hotels and Locations on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue and if you want a typical quiet localation and deserted beach.....its NOT here.

That said if you hire a car (Cheaper if you do it on internet before arrival) you dont have to travel far to find Deserted paradise beaches.

Every time I stop in the seychelles I make the point to management that id they just made some of their drinks 'slightly' cheaper, they would sell more and overall make more profit....basic stuff really..... spoke to a number of people who were 'rationing' themselves due to the prices. Bottle of Seybrew 60 Seychelle rupees (£3) In the local shop 17 Rupees.

Overall food is good, but as previously stated in reviews Lunch is expensive, best to share a pizza between 2.

North Beach is very good with good snorkling... can get busy.

The water they use to irrigate the gardens is definatley sewage water, at least thats what it smells like and can spoil the whole experience.

If you want a quieter more intimate location on the main Island try the Hilton Northholme or Sunset Beach.

My husband and I stayed in a Junior Suite for a week for our wedding anniversary.

We arrived on the early Emirates flight and had been forewarned by the reviews on here about not being able to check into the hotel until lunchtime, so we had come prepared and showered in the guest rooms and changed into our swimming costumes and started exploring and took part in an introduction to snorkelling in the pool. Would recommend doing this otherwise you will be hanging around and wasting precious holiday time!

When we did get into our room in the 200 block about 1.30pm, it was fantastic - spacious, bright, with a huge balcony overlooking palms and the pool and a large inviting bathroom with twin sinks and walk in wet room. The room was decorated with hibiscus flowers and we even had a bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit basket awaiting us. Perfect! The bed was v comfortable too.

The layout of the resort is genius. Whilst it is a huge resort, you don't ever really feel like it's crowded as it is so spread out and so well thought out. It is truly beautiful, with verdant hills and palms as a backdrop, blue sky and gorgeous hibiscus, lilies and other flowers. The white payanke birds and mynah birds fly overhead and call to one another. It really is heavenly!

As to getting round the resort, we didn't really have a problem with the golf buggies and we found the 200 block to be an excellent block to be in as it is far enough out to be perfectly peaceful (there were a couple of weddings when we were there), but close enough to be able to walk easily to Corossol, the main buffet restaurant. There was only one evening when we had an issue - we went for a meal at Cyann and didn't finish until nearly midnight and there didn't seem to be any buggies around, but a kind employee named Raul came to our rescue when we were lost and went and fetched us a buggy in the end!

The resort is blessed with two great beaches, South and North beach. South beach is really just for paddling in and North beach is the main beach. it was fun wading over to the island from South Beach though - take some sea shoes with you as there are black urchins on the way! I woke up just before 6am one morning and went down to South Beach to see the sun rise - truly beautiful, recommend it, and you will be the only person on the beach! Fabulous photo opportunity!

North Beach can get quite crowded (especially at the weekend when more locals use it as it is a public beach) and the main reason we went there was to go snorkelling. The snorkelling is great, we saw turtles twice and a myriad of fish, including Lion Fish (don't get too close!), wrasse, angel fish, parrot fish, needle fish, oriental sweetlips, jacks and many many more!

We found the Spa the most peaceful area to sunbathe and we appreciated the cool lemon water provided. There are about 10 sun loungers in the infinity pool, which is stunning. If you don't want full sun, there are lots more sunbeds dotted round the spa and you can use the jacuzzi, steam room, warm and cool pools between 11am and 4pm.

Do have a spa treatment. I had a fantastic massage. Treatments are very expensive though - more expensive than a lot of London beauticians and spas, so leave enough money for it - the spa treatment and price list can be downloaded from the hotel website so you can plan before you go.

I recommend trying out different restaurants. There is a lot of choice at the main buffet restaurant, Corossol, and the meat and fish are beautifully cooked, but a change is welcome. There was a fantastic Moroccan night on at Helios when we were there, and it is worth trying Cyann. Cyann is very expensive, but a totally different experience to the other restaurants and the food is beautifully presented.

The other great thing is the acitivites on offer - complimentary and non-complimentary. Download the list from the hotel website before you go which sets out the complimentary acticities and the boat house activities.

If you walk over the path near the helipad, you find some steps leading down to some small private beaches and it's great to be the only people there. The hotel does a trail there at 8am but you can easily find it yourself.

We went on the Cap Ternay snorkelling trip which I recommend. The boat trip round the corner is fun and the snorkelling very good. I really wanted to go on the trip to St Anne, Moyenne and Cerf, but sadly the wind was too high and the sea too rough when we were there. It sounds fantastic! Go and speak to Anna in the North Beach boat house who is very helpful and will try to sort your trips out.

The hotel provides a shuttle service to Victoria every day for 300 Seychelle Rupees. It was very interesting to see the colourful market, the natural history museum, the clock and the botanical gardens. If I'm honest, though, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. Walking around the main town is VERY hot and tiring in the heat.The food market is fun, but you only need 5 mins or so to look at that. The market also sells shells, jewellery, sarongs etc. for tourists and it is very overpriced. I saw a pretty abalone shell bangle and was quoted over £15. My usual negotiating tricks did nothing for me and so clearly people pay over the odds and it's difficult to negotiate! We had high hopes for the botanical gardens, given the stunning flora of the Seychelles, but were very disappointed. A lot of work is needed to bring the gardens up to scratch and the tortoise pen housing scores of tortoises in a tiny area is depressing.

The one thing that let the resort down was the service. In a few cases, the service was first class - Deejo at Corossol restaurant was the model of professionalism and the others really need to follow his lead. Surman (not sure of spelling!) on reception was very helpful when we had an issue with Creole Travel Services. In the boathouse, Yanik was very professional and knowledgeable and Anna did her best to sort trips out and was constantly updating us so we knew where we were, which we appreciated.

A lot of the staff, however, need a lot of training, especially in the restaurants. It often took a while to be acknowledged upon walking into the restaurant, which is frustrating, and service was often slow and clumsy.In the morning, you have tea or coffee and on several occasions the water brought to us was lukewarm and we had to ask for it to be replaced. One morning the water had run out in Corossol at breakast and the man and woman behind the cold drinks were just watching me struggling to get a few drops out. When I asked if they could fill up the water, they just stared at me and continued chatting amongst themselves. The guy did eventually go off to get some water, but at this point I was so annoyed I just walked off! Chatting amongst themselves is a big thing and apparently the norm, though it is easily interpreted as rudeness and shouldn't be tolerated in a supposedly 5* resort.

Other little things may be irritating - having to make the tea yourself at breakfast rather than having it brought out to you, and having nothing to put the teabags in when you have finished with them for example.

And yes, the drinks are expensive and lunch is expensive if you are on halfboard. Tip - you shouldn't need to eat a whole pizza/sandwich/burger yourself at lunchtime as the portions are large -we shared a pizza for lunch each day which was enough. Still expensive though. We bought a couple of bottles of champagne in duty free and drank those. London prices basically at around £10-12 a cocktail. You can purchase drinks and put them in the mini bar fridge which is useful. It is definitely worth trying a cocktail or two in Zee bar though - v comfy chairs, great atmospehere and the live music was very good when we were there.

All in all we had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend Constance Ephelia.
