“Awful hotel”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

We stayed at this hotel in early June 2014 as part of a group. Our original hotel was oversold and the travel company put us at this hotel, telling us this was an "upgrade." If this was an upgrade, I would hate to see our original hotel. We were expecting a 4 star hotel and this isn't even close. The rooms are very spartan and you need to push a red button to turn on the hot water. Too bad there is no sign to tell you to do that. The air conditioning is either on or off and when on is very noisy -- ear plugs helped. There are only 12 TV stations, only one of which is in English. The bath towels are very thin more like dish towels. The breakfast and dinner buffets were OK, but the choices were very limited choices compared to the other 3 hotels we stayed at. We did not walk to the beach, but others in our group did and said it was filthy. There is limited free Wifi, only in the lobby and not in the rooms. The hotel caters to ultra-orthodox Jews, with separate times for the pool and gym and the beach is divided. Even in the dining room, the buffet for groups is served in the back of the dining room.

this recently renovated holiday village has comfortable clean rooms and a very large dining area, just a bit too large for comfort.when full its more like a railway station.
Rooms are well signposted and easy to find as you wend your way though well kept gardens and although the reception is efficient there is a lack of professionalism.
Sadly 'The Beach' on the shore of the sea of Galilee is catering just to religious Jewish customers. the beach is divided with separate bathing areas for men and woman - it is badly kept and difficult to access with a dreadful high wooden wall hiding all the beauty of the lake.- anyone unaware of how beautiful the Sea of Galilee beaches are this is tantamount to 'paradise lost'!

The reputation of this hotel dropped significantly in recent years, and when signing up to spend a long weekend there with a large group I was prepared for the worst. In the event we were very pleasantly surprised. We had a room in the main building, 331, which clearly had been renovated not long ago. The room and its comfortable furnishings were in perfect shape (though the toilet mechanism was puzzling). The room and the bathroom were clean, and the bathroom was equipped with everything one gets in good hotels (including bar-soap). Food was tasty and plentiful; service in the dining room was prompt and friendly.

The hotel caters mainly to a dati and haredi clientele (though not exclusively -- while we were there a large group of South American gentiles were also present) so it is very convenient for the dati traveler -- mechanical, not electronic, keys, digital shabbat clock governing the lights in the room and the air-conditioning, which can be individually set, and, yes, cut toilet paper -- no worse than whole rolls, and so on.

To the management: A closeable door between the room itself and the entrance way dressing area would add great value to the room. Well worth the relatively small investment in my view.

We stayed at this hotel for a family weekend. we had 8 rooms.
We had many children and requested the outdoor rooms with a garden. Since the reservation was made well in advance- we were told that the garden room were reserved for us.
Upon arrival, the hotel was fully booked and we got rooms in the actual hotel without a garden. They were unable to change our rooms.
We requested to speak with the manager, but he wasn't around and failed to get back to us on this issue. We ended up meeting him after our stay came to an end.
Our room was old and had musty dirty carpeting. The room smelled of mildew. We got 2 baby beds in the room- one which we noticed right away that was broken and the second- was also broken- but we only found out in the middle of the night when our year and half old daughter moved to the spot that was missing screws and fell through the bed!!! Thank g-d she only got very scared.
The food was ok but the service was terrible and even after we complained several times nothing changed.
At the end of the weekend, we asked the Front Desk Manager, David, for some kind of compensation- and were denied (iv'e never been to a hotel where you have to go into the back office to meet with the manager and speak with him while he sits at his desk...). He claimed that we got everything that we were promised and that it was our fault for not reviewing the room type that was written on the res. and checking with their website that this room was indeed a garden room (FYI- on the website is sais these rooms sometime ARE garden rooms). When i complained that the we had a very hard time running after the kids the whole weekend and expected them to be able to run around outside, he said and I quote "it's your job as a mother to be responsible for your child".
All in all, I was not impressed.

If you review my contributions, I have stayed at over 20 hotels in the
past 3 years - yet this hotel is the worst experience I have had in many
years.

We were a group of 8 rooms that booked 5 months in advance for an
extended family weekend. We specifically asked for the rooms outside
with garden access since there were many children under the age of 6.
The entire booking was done by phone and fax and the reservations
department responded quickly with our booking.

Our problems started at checkin. We found out we were assigned 8 Hermon
rooms. These are in the main building. Turns out the outdoor garden
rooms are called Golan rooms. Since we had booked it all via phone and
fax and we specifically asked for the outside garden rooms, we had no
idea we were assigned "indoor" rooms. The front desk tried to move rooms
around but were unable to make any changes. They provided our group with
a community room for our use over the weekend as compensation.

The rooms were fine for a 3 star hotel, although the hall carpets have
never been cleaned in the past 3 years and show enormous wear, tear and
stains. The meals on the other hand were a disaster. We were set up in
the lobby with a large table. Our waiter was unable to handle a 30
person table so we got served last among the 500 hotel guests and he
often had to come back with no choices since all the other choices had
been eaten up by the rest of the guests. One time I saw him on Friday
night standing by the kitchen doorway, getting incoming leftover mains
from other waiters who were already returning food to the kitchen,
placing it on his tray and coming to us to serve us our mains.

We asked management to change our waiter for the next meal but they were
not able to comply. The 13 little kids in our group were climbing the
walls waiting for food that came very late.

I would never recommend for anyone or any group to use this hotel. Find
an alternative - there are many.

Kinar hotel is located next to the Sea of Galilee, soak in greenery all around and can be used as an exit point for tours in the Galilee region and the Golan Heights, the hotel itself is reasonable, meals with strict Kosher but certainly satisfactory. Large rooms suitable for large families or for several partners interested in sharing the room. Most of the rooms have been renovated in the past year but there are still some old rooms. Excellent service and kind staff that is always willing to help.
Particularly suitable orthodox religious families seeking to make a family event on Saturday or for groups that want to stay where strict observance of Shabbat and kosher rulls

Room Tip: Choose the rooms in the main building or have the rooms that recently renovated.
