“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013 via mobile

The hotel - reasonably well maintained. A few signs of wear. 2 of the 4 elevators were out of service.
Rooms - all have a great view of the Sea of Galilee. Bedding was very comfortable. The air conditioning quit working twice during our stay there, but all it took was a call to the front desk so they could reset it.
The food - they have a huge buffet with numerous items. My wife and I couldn't seem to find anything that we really liked, but others in our group of 12 were happy with it.
The pool - very nice, but closes too early.
Location - right on the lake near the boardwalk. Lots going on.

Im very surprised that in a country like Israel where regulators are very strict, this Hotel is still getting away with a 5-star status! This is a very badly maintained property - probably surviving on groups who have no choice in selecting a hotel and probably don't stay for more than a night. We checked in at 7:00pm and were led straight for our dinner to their only Restaurant at the Lobby level. The Restaurant was full but these guys did not put on the air-conditioning. Even on requesting the staff twice, we were met with blank stares. The Restaurant itself is gloomy and food pedestrian. The rooms are jaded & old. The room floor was covered with dust and dirt. The bathroom floor was covered with dirt. When I came out of the shower, the spillage made dirt puddles all over the floor. This was the worst house-keeping I had seen in years in an Israeli 5-star hotel! The beds were hard and dusty. Terrible is the word. The next morning no airconditioning in the stuffy, dusty restaurant - very un-Israeli. Avoid this Hotel like plague.

The Leonardo chain apparently specializes in buying up old, faded hotels, all barely five stars rated by Israeli Tourism Board, judging from the Jerusalem and Tiberius properties. Too many things didn't work. Despite the full hotel, a couple of the elevators did not operate. Apparently a standard problem in Tiberius in the Spring is swarms of insects coming off of the Sea of Galilee. One of the rooms in our group, now knowing the problem, opened the balcony door, to look out over the Sea. A swarm of insects came into his room. When I spoke to the manager, he claims that everyone knows that they have the insect problem in the Spring. When I suggested that they put up signs to indicate that people should not open their balcony doors, he responded, "That's a good idea."
Both the Jerusalem and Tiberius Leonardo Plaza Hotels are poorly managed, despite eager wait staffs and desk staffs. They try hard, but not a good choice if you can afford better.

We, too, were with a tour group, however I feel extremely fortunate that we had an opportunity to stay at this wonderful hotel. The room was large, modern and clean. The large glass doors opened to a good-sized balcony which had a beautifully unobstructed view of the Sea of Galilee. I can't imagine a more beautiful setting. We were on an upper floor, and it's true that sometimes there was a wait for the elevators, particularly on Friday evenings. However, the service elevators were open to guests and we often rode on it without any waits. Employees were very accommodating when we got on the service elevator with them. The food in the dining room was delicious. They had so many choices and everything was excellent. Seaside shops and restaurants were a quick -minute walk from the hotel, and there was a great movie (free) about the area in a nearby retail shop. After the movie, the shop provided coffee and ice cream while we shopped - very fun. This hotel is absolutely the place to stay when you're in the area.

Best I could tell this is a "tour group hotel". It's in very close proximity to the Sea of Galilee. Most rooms have a view of the Sea of Galilee IF you are on an upper floor. The down side to being on an upper floor is the elevators. They are small and ALWAYS busy. Fortunately, there were all working at the time of my stay, but you do have to plan to wait a while to catch one.
The best thing about this hotel is the food. (Of course, if you aren't a fan of Mediterranean food then you won't agree with me.) It was the best of all the food I had in Israel. As has been mentioned by a previous reviewer, tour groups are seated together for meals.
Unfortunately, I didn't find the floor in my room to be very clean. There was a good amount of dust and a couple of small dead bugs in the corners the entire time I was there. The rest of the room (bathroom, beds, and linens) were clean.
The air conditioner seemed to be hit and miss for those in my group. Some had rooms with good air conditioning while others (like myself) had to sleep with no covers in order to be comfortable. The only reason I gave 4 stars was for the wonderful Mediterranean food and the view from my room. If you are on a tour as I was you really don't have a choice about where you stay. If you are traveling on your own, you may want to take into consideration the "cons" I have mentioned about this hotel.

Hotel was really clean and well situated. Only issue was two double beds which were eventually joined by a zipper, slightly uncomfortable. This is very common is Israel. Breakfast buffet was excellent with many varieties and choices. From omelets to cereals to many varieties of bread and well worth it

We spent two nights of part of a ten day trip to the Holy Land. The hotel is perfectly situated on the shores of Galilee. It is large and was quite frenetic with a large number of people staying at the hotel. The food was good with an array of different foods to choose from for breakfast and dinner. Demand for the limited number of lifts meant some waiting and there could have been better general maintenance of the hotel. Overall of group enjoyed our brief stay

Room Tip: Would definitely recommend the sea facing views, super sun rises!
