“Idyllic spot in busy Tiberias”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

We chose this small hotel because of reviews on Trip Advisor, and were not disappointed.

It is a delightfully renovated old hotel, and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Yes the rooms are on the small size, but we were only there to sleep. A lovely balcony surrounds the hotel, which overlooks the lake (just a walking promenade between the hotel and the sea). We ate breakfast outside, as well as late evening cappuccino and dessert. Just a few minutes walk into town, and many restaurants on the promenade within a couple of minutes walk.

Couple of "gotchas": no elevator, so if you have trouble with stairs, ask for a room on the lower floor. Also, cars cannot get to the hotel, so you have to park near e taxi stand at the top and walk your cases down the incline.

The room has modern plumbing, and some rooms have jacuzzis. We opted for a larger room with a shower. There is a fridge in the room, along with a the kettle and coffee. A jug of milk is provided.

Breakfast was amazing!

Room Tip: Ask if you want a room with a view of the lake, but be prepared to pay extra.

Excellent location, beautiful room, spectacular view, and the most friendly and accommodating staff. I think that says it all! I would highly recommend this boutique hotel as a base to explore the Galilee area. Delicious breakfast too!!

We stayed at this hotel for a very special birthday weekend. It's a historic gem, the rooms are fabulous, furnished in period, the view of the lake out of this world and the staff could not have been more helpful. If you stay in Tiberias, you must stay here!

Room Tip: rooms facing the lake are a must!

We had 5 rooms in the hotel over weekend Oct 18-19 for a family members 60th birthday. The attentiveness of the staff- Oshra, Ben, Lior (and so many others who's names I cannot remember)- was just fantastic. The rooms were all gorgeous- bright and clean and pretty, the decorations were amazing and it just had everything one needed.
The breakfast is not buffet- instead you get loads of plates of food with everything you could ever want brought to your table; these plates had 6 different kinds of cheese, sliced bread, bread rolls, jams, honey, pastries, croissants, eggs, fish hot water, tea, coffee (no charge for extra tea/ coffee like a former reviewer said). It was really just fantastic.
The roof is a definite highlight. Sitting up there in the evening and sunbathing during the day with a clear view of the Kinneret just cannot be beaten.
This is a great hotel for couples btw- try and get a balcony suite if you can spring it-- the hot tub for two is just marvellous! A bottle of wine, water and fruit basket on arrival is also a special touch.
This hotel does not have an elevator, but at maximum is only up one flight of steps. We managed this easily even with a 4 year old and a baby and a whole load of stuff for the kids. There is no parking on site, but the municipality car park is only about 60 meters away.

I highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, get a balcony suite or the presidential suit. Four posters bed, jacuzzis tubs...

We spent a weekend camping out at a music festival on the grounds of Kibbutz Ginosar - I decided to extend our stay in a different flavor of accomodation and booked for Saturday night at Shirat Hayam. I took advantage of a promotional offer which made the cost of this treat reasonable.
We were greeted by Eliran with an iced glass of lemonade that truly refreshed.
Our room was perfect for our particular tastes and needs, immaculate and tastefully designed to maintain the feeling of days gone by.
We were offered the use of the pool and beach of a neighboring hotel which really brought to light our wise decision to stay in a boutique hotel away from the Tiberian "honkey tonk".
The church next door was holding a beautiful Easter mass which added to the atmosphere that we were joining travelers for thousands of years have come to Tiberius to be among their gods.
I felt completely satisfied with everything the hotel had to offer but wonder if I would have been as happy if I had paid the listed price.

we were there and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The room was spotlessly clean , very nicely decorated and we felt as if we were taking part in the history (the room) at the same time enjoyed the modern facilities.
Breakfast was very rich , beyond our expectations and the crew - polite, attentive and warm.
Who needs more? We will definitely come back .

We stayed in the hotel only for one night. Since we could not simply afford its lovely luxury rooms, and it was already late in the night, they offered us a small room to stay. I undrestand that normally this room is not offered to the clients, but we really appreciated it. It was the cheapest room, in the basement, but very clean and comfortable. Perfect for one night. We still received a 5star luxury treatment, soft towels and wonderfully large breakfast on the terrace with a lake view.

Otherwise, the hotel offers remarkable rooms, all with wonderful views.
Its location is I think the best in the city, just on the promenade, far enough from the huge hotels. Small beach is just in front, which makes it very easy to swim. There are plenty of restaurants and bars around.

Tips: there is free parking very close to the hotel, just as at the reception.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Shirat hayam, a boutique hotel, is located in front of lake kinnert and opposite the breathtaking view of the Golan Heights This rare building has been totally renovated using basaltic stones with many arched windows typical of the ottoman style. It was built in 1850 and was enlarged in 1925. The hotel was one of the first hotels in Tiberias and was originally called "Haifa" just like other hotels that were named after cities at that time. In 1946, after the very popular Egyptian singer and actress Umm Kulthum also know as "the star of East" stayed at the hotel they change the hotel's former name to the star of the east as a token of admiration. After the establishment of the State of Israel, the famous painter, Shimshon Holzman, who was a resident of the hotel, set up a big gallery for visitors. Many artists visited, stayed and painted here. Among them were Nachum Guttman, Reuven Rubin and many more including Holzman. One of the most well known paintings of the hotel was created by Nachum Guttman and is called "The Promenade of Tiberias". The hotel since then has been refurbished keeping the uniqueness of its rooms, suites and balconies, enabling the guests to enjoy the feeling of history in every corner at Shirat Hayam boutique hotel. The hotel has kept its characteristic beauty, creating harmonious combination between ancient and modern, giving a feeling of tranquility at its best. Located in front of the Sea of Galilee, the historic building style with the decorative tiles enforces that feeling. The hotel is situated on the Igal Alon Promenade of Tiberias right in the heart of the open-air museum for sculptures where works of art the best artists are displayed. Illana Gur's for example. It is becoming a center of art. What is there in the hotel? There are 11 magnificently decorated suites with a view of the Sea of Galilee. The Presidential suite, Balconies and De Lux suites were especially designed and furnished to emphasize the uniqueness of the place and yet are furnished all modern connivances. All the rooms are equipped with LCD screens and Cable TV. Each of the Presidential Suite and the Balconies Suite has a private balcony facing the lake where the changing colors of the scenery can be seen according to the time of day and season. Most rooms contain Jacuzzi. The Holzman Balcony is located on the rooftop of the hotel and is suitable for sunbathing or relaxation. Gatherings of guests, lectures and professional meetings can be organized with advance notice (Up to 80people), private dinners or other intimate occasions can be held there, too. The hotel offers a dairy breakfast to both guests and visitors outside the hotel. It also offers a spa for treatment and relaxation. Special spa-deals including a day-room are available. The guests are welcome to relax, enjoy their stay and their stay and then leave with a smile and a desire to return. ... more   less
