“Nice location -- it's just a place to sleep.”
Reviewed January 26, 2010

We used this hotel as a base for our day-trips in the region (by rented car). It served its pupose. Our room, a five bed room, was old, but clean enough. Beds are soft, and the linen clean. We got new towels every day. The man in the counter was nice and serviceminded. (We asked for some extra blankets) Its walking distance to restaurants and the citycentre. So if you expect just a place to sleep at a reasonable price, this is the place your looking for.

The place is a scam. Rooms are old and dirty. Thick layer of dust on chairs and tables. Breakfast is bad. Considering what they charged us -- 350 shekels for a double room, this is absolutely not worth it.

Hotel Aviv is in a great location in Tiberias. It is barely a five minute walk from the Promenade that is bustling with a touristy-restaurants, gelato stands, and a mini-Bazzar. Right across from the beach where the beautiful Kinneret water lies.

But with Aviv comes some problesm. 1) Service- the employees there are pretty surly and uninformative. Typical of ISraeli fashion, they give quick answers, tell you not to worry, and will complelety ignore you or tell you to leave or wait if they are bust. (As wehn my friend asked a question and Omri, the receptionist/manager said "Can't you see I am counting money?" ...nice touch, huh.)
They told us we had 300 shekel a night room for two rooms(we were a group of 8) then upon arrival we paid for one night, just in case a move was in order for the next night. Well, the next morning we were told that we shouldn't have done that because they didn't know and we missed the 10 am checkout and that made problems. The problem was that management didn't communicate with one another and that led to confusion. So the second morning they told us on shabbat (Friday) the price goes up!! What?? That isn't what the manager said!! My friend got a bit frustrated, but in the end we got our original deal back and they realized they were wrong.....

2) Cleanliness:Sheets were not the cleanest. We needed to request towels. the drainage in the bathroom to squeegee water on the floor didn't work. Not huge issues, but made us a little uneasy....
oh, by the way, the TVs don't work

3) Uninformative staff: We asked questions about certain excursions we were doing and restaurants to go to. We were told to go here and there because " you'll get something on the house" and " We ca give you 5 shekelim off if you buy your ticket here at the hotel!" don't listen to these sleazy scams. They tried to make money off us, and succeeded once when they told us the spa to go to and that we should get our tickets from them. Overall the staff here are NOT good.

Frommer's gave this hotel at 3 star rating and said it is a good budget place. Yes it is good on a budget, but DEFINITELY head over to the information booth near the Sheraton or the Sheraton Hotel itself for any info you would like.

The manager and his cronies are scam-artists.

The hotle had SOME balconies, not every room ( mine did not). The "kitchenette" they tell you about is a fridge, maybe a kettle. Breakfast is NOT included and seems like a ripoff. They do have bikes to rent for a good price, but summers are TOO HOT for that so save that for winter anway.

The beds were fine, air conditioning great, and location great too.

  • Liked — location. charming exterior and charming balconies
  • Disliked — service, extras,
