“Charming, if you can climb stairs”
Reviewed May 1, 2014

A charming, attractive hotel with some drawbacks. The two sections are not contiguous, and you must walk outside to go between them. From reception in the old building to the dining room is 25 steps down, and from nearly every room climbing or descending a stairway is required. Even where there is an elevator it might not get you all the way to your destination. Not a recommended hotel for people who can’t negotiate stairs. (A map of the property would be a helpful tool for guests.) On the plus side, the rooms have a refrigerator and a DVD player, so you can bring your own movies. The breakfast is ample and tasty, with made-to-order cappuccino. The dinner buffet had an excellent salad bar, better than the rest of the offerings. We applaud the manager, Ronen, who responded quickly to our unhappiness with our room by offering us a substitute. The front desk lacks tourist information and there is no shop for buying foreign language newspapers or gifts.

Room Tip: Older building has more going for it.

What a gorgeous and "different" hotel! Perfect for the Tzfat (Safed) experience! The hotel is a converted castle, with much history and artistic charm, situated high on the mountain. Breathtaking views. Each room is a little self contained unit, with private entrances from outside. Do not expect a modern hotel room, rather our Garden Room #3, had perfect rustic elegance. Outside our entrance door, there was a private bistro table for pleasantries, and delightful hammocks to lounge in while soaking up the magnificent views. Sculptures adorn the gardens. The rooms interior reflects the castle style with stone inlets in the walls and lovely paintings. The room is large and comfortable. The bathroom is not new, (probably circa 1980's), but seems to blend with the style. Perhaps this should be updated, but this did not detract from the over all beauty and charm of the hotel. (Bring a long Israel extension cord to use for the blow dryer.)

Since this is an old converted castle, there are stone steps and walks all over. One must climb these in order to go from place to place, so this hotel is a good choice only for guests able to walk and carry luggage on steep stairs. There is no bell hop to take your things to the room - which would be a very good addition for the hotel to consider doing.
The hotel is located near the artist colony and historic synagogues. Tzfat itself is rugged, mystical, and ancient. The Ruth Rimonim Inn, adds to the charm!

We were fortunate enough to be upgraded to a deluxe room on arrival. These are a reasonable size with lovely views across the valley and have an espresso machine and fridge. Beds are comfortable and the bathroom was a decent size. Grounds are lovely and the building is quirky but interesting and staff we're very pleasant. Location is perfect for exploring the old city and car parking is available near the front door. However it's really annoying that every time we tried to phone reception there was no answer requiring us to hike through the building to find someone. There are also issues with cleanliness of some public areas, it didn't look as if the stairs from the lobby to the restaurant had been cleaned or the balustrade dusted in a good long time. I was surprised to be expected to pay for wifi in a hotel in Israel and even more so to find no orange juice, fresh or otherwise, at breakfast. I've got to say that had I paid full price for the deluxe room I'd be seriously disappointed.

Only good thing about this hotel is Sivan the lovely helpful receptionist. Our room had no water in bath and toilet did not flush. She moved us next day to room with water in bath but no plug!!! Other staff unhelpful no-one smiled. Towels grey, grim and we left after 2 nights having paid for 4 nights. This hotel is beautifully situated but needs tender loving care and staff need training. My thanks to Sivan who ordered taxi and booked a lovely restaurant she should be rewarded for saving us from a bad hotel experience

Room Tip: I stayed in garden room in old part room tiny not clean

After reading some of the reviews, we were a bit worried, but this hotel was one of the best we stayed in throughout Israel. Courteous staff, delicious food, large clean room with a wonderful view of the mountains. We were very happy we kept to the reservation. Would definitely return here and to the very interesting city of Safed. Added bonus of a Purim celebration while we were there, complete with costumes, singing, and dancing in the streets. We loved this hotel.

Room Tip: There is an old section and a newer section. Both have advantages. We were in the newer section, s...

We stayed at the Ruth Rimonim on March 7 and 8, 2014. It is a very nice hotel with courteous staff. Aside fro a little stuffiness in our room we really had no complaints, UNTIL we discovered that not only did the hotel not offer free WiFi, they had the audacity to CHARGE for it!!! REALLY??? In 2014 a hotel can't afford to offer its guests free WiFI?

Truth be told, we were somewhat shocked. Numerous cafes in the city offered free WiFi and one of the nicest hotels in the city didn't? VERY disappointing.

Speaking of disappointments, we were also shocked to discover that they did not offer fresh orange juice with their breakfasts. On Saturday, Shabbos, they only offered water and the coffee they served wasn't hot because they did not seem to have a hot plate to rest the decanter on. On Sunday morning, they offered an orange drink but at least had the espresso/cappuccino machine on.

We were really disappointed about the WiFi and the fact that in Israel, which is noted for their fresh oranges, we couldn't have either.

BTW, the exact opposite was true of the hotel we stayed at in Tel Aviv.

Oh Well. Next time we'll stay elsewhere.

Signed,

VERY Disappointed.

After finishing 3 weeks of Sar El volunteering the Ruth Ramonim Hotel in Safed was the perfect finish to our Israel experience. I would stay here on a future Safed trip. Location right in artist district, cost of double room and great breakfast cannot be beat.

Room Tip: So comfortable
