I spent one night at Joy and Even Strauss’s Artist Quarter Guesthouse, and it was absolutely wonderful. Their house, together with the two guestrooms, is located at the edge of the beautiful Artists Quarter in a picturesque and quiet street built in ancient limestone. The room itself is beautifully renovated, light and airy, sunny, and a pleasure to be inside. You can feel the ancient spirituality of Safed there. Joy and Even were very kind, and everything—from inquiring about the room to saying goodbye—was done in a calm, attentive, and pleasant manner. They gave me a map of the city and told me about some of the interesting places to visit. The breakfast was lovely, and the room has everything you need for a comfortable stay (including wireless internet and a hairdryer). I highly recommend staying here.

Also, Joy gives fantastic massages, which I had the pleasure of experiencing. Her full-body massage is literally a blessing—and as such an experience fully in sync with being in Safed.

My husband abd I recently completed our third stay in the Artist Quarter Gusthouse, this time for over two weeks. Hosts Joy and Evan Strauss are a lovely couple with good young children. They are very helpful and as returning guests have given us added benefits. The location, at the end of an alleyway is very quiet although it is close to the Jerusalem Mall shopping area and within walking distance of stores, restaurants, banks (ATMS), and free parking. The accommodations are comfortable and fit into the Old City architecture. We are secular but they can also accommodate religious guests. We highly recommend this place.

Room Tip: There are only two places to stay--a suite and a one room/bath. We stayed in the latter and it was...

because rather than in spite of the snow of the century the proprietors were able to demonstrate their flexible easy going charm. we were able to reschedule the days very satisfactorily. joy was on the constant look out to make us comfortable and "at home". the 2 lodgings for ourselves, our married children and 2 single sons worked out well. the redone inn is beautiful and really nostalgic with modern charm, a sort of recapitulation of what Israel is.
highly recommended.

This Zimmer is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or a family weekend, ( although we could have stayed even longer!). From start to finish this was a great experience. I initially called up Joy and Evan Strauss the owners in a slightly disorganised state as we had left it late to book anywhere as a weekend shabbat stay after a friends wedding in Tel Aviv.
The booking service was fast, efficient and incredibly helpful with joy sending me the most detailed road directions and anything else we could possibly require. We got the whole thing booked, accommodation, delicious catering, and a wonderful massage treatment in about five minutes!
On arrival we were really pleased with the suite. Joy and Evan have put a lot of thought into the decor and general ambiance of the suite and it really shows. Moroccan lanterns, a huge bowl of fruit including large grapes, and homely jars or granola awaited us. Beautiful and well picked art hung from the walls. It was very clean, with so many pretty touches. Our hosts could not help enough and recommended local artisans, food and walks for us. The suite is of a generous size with high cavernous ceilings. We went there with our 18 month daughter and literally could not have picked a better place. After our rather cramped Tel Aviv stay this was luxary.

Room Tip: Ask for the suite if you have a child

My first trip to Safed was almost 30 years ago.
I lived there for almost 10 years
and have been going back ever since.
This is a new place and certainly the best I have found.
You will truly "feel" Safed, while being close to everywhere you would want to go,
Your hosts will make you feel right at home.
Don't pass up this opportunity.

My wife and I stayed in the 2-room suite, with domed ceilings and original, exposed stone work. It is stunning and is beautifully decorated. The owners are very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We couldn't recommend it more highly!

My adult son and I needed a place for a night in the middle of everything in Safed (Tzephat), and we found this zimmer/bed and breakfast recommended on tripadvisor.com

Many things in Israel are a hassle.....this is NOT one of them.

A beautiful, clean, bright room....huge ceilings with rough walls....like a grotto.....but clean......
Very welcoming, and neat.

Being in the midst of the Artists Quarter in the old city of Safed....Tzephat.....you have to accept the fact that you are not going to have valet service or a big parking lot in front....... But we only had to walk a few feet to the entrance. The owners talked us all the way in, on the phone, even though we arrived after 10 PM.

Breakfast was perfect, and we were able to daven (pray) at a local 6 am Minyan that was less than a five minute walk.

Perfectly located, clean, bright, and very reasonably priced with very pleasant owners.......A great value!! I look forward to returning.

Thank you,
Orrin Davis.

Room Tip: Be friendly!!
