In addition to the archaeology and history at Megiddo. It's a great place to take kids to run through the cistern on a HOT day! The kids loved climbing down the stairs to walk through the cool water tunnels. In fact they enjoyed it so much that they turned around and did it again! It was so HOT outside and the cool tunnels were a welcomed change!

If you like history, plan to spend around 2 hours at Megiddo. There are amazing ruins spanning several centuries and various empires.

Megiddo is a tell in modern Israel near Kibbutz Megiddo, known for its historical, geographical, and theological importance, especially under its Greek name Armageddon. In ancient times Megiddo was an important city-state.
Excavations have unearthed 26 layers of ruins, indicating a long period of settlement. Megiddo is strategically located at the head of a pass through the Carmel Ridge overlooking the Jezreel Valley from the west.

Tel Megiddo has been well excavated and documented with signage that explains each important location. It is exciting to visit a place that has figured so prominently in history, from the rise of the Egyptian empire under Thutmose III in about 1480 BCE to battles of Biblical significance. Well worth the trip.
