Description: Bayat is a great little restaurant, with some tasty dishes, a young, lively atmosphere and a big selection of alcohol (the place is owned by Christians, hence the free-flowing alcohol - including Taibe beer, the only real Palestinian beer). Choose to sit outside if it's not too hot (and join the smokers), or sit inside/at the bar. With friendly and tri-lingual staff (Arabic, English, Hebrew), this is an excellent place to take some respite from the tourist trail in Nazareth. Relaxed pace, but catch the chicken breast, and for the kids try a personal-sized pizza.

Over three years of living in Nazareth we visited Bayat many times. The space is a the traditional unfinished stone interior so typical to Israel and doesn't have the fake feel that so many Western franchises do. The staff are always friendly and tri-lingual (Arabic, English, Hebrew). The service is a little slow sometimes, so it is not the best place to come when you are in a hurry.

Try one of the chicken breast dishes with the mint lemonade. If you bring kids get them a little personal pizza. Since the place is owned by Christians you can get pepperoni on it if you like. Sometimes you can even get a bottle of Taibe, the only Palestinian (West Bank) beer still produced.

If it is not too hot you can sit out on the patio, but people will smoke outside. I enjoyed going there for coffee in the morning and see all the pilgrims walking by to visit the Orthodox Church of the Annunciation.

We were touring Nazareth with family and going through the sites found Mary's well, the symbol of Nazareth. There are a number of restaurants in a row there but this one was filled with locals outside and in on a hot day, always a sign of a good place. There were five of us, some of the dishes we got were great, some good, huge portions for the prices so split anything you order. Not the usual middle-eastern cuisine, more eclectic, even some Mexican dishes. The atmosphere is great, historic stone building, very clean and well-run. Full bar and good prices, considerate wait staff.
