Ein Harod Country Suites & Guesthouse
Reviewed November 9, 2012

We stayed at the country lodging for 2 nights over the weekend and had a great time. Dorit checked us in even though we arrived just after 11am - she was very polite and smiley, and was very helpful and patient in explaining what's in the kibbutz, and the area.

The country lodging is great - it has a balcony with great views, while at the same time, remains very private. There is a jaccuzi in the room as well - and a free small bottle of wine to top it off. There is also a DVD player in the room - if you are planning to spend time in the room, it might be worth the while to bring some DVDs. The 2 restaurants recommended (within 5 mins drive) were great - Dag al ha gan, and Herb Farm restaurant. There is ample parking near to each lodging - so parking is no issue at all.

As the kibbutz is quite big and is built on a hill, you can rent a golf cart to go around (if you don't have a car). There are 2 shops in the kibbutz itself, as well as an art museum.

Finally, it is important to mention that the guest card entitles you to discounts at restaurants, as well as attractions such as Bet She-an in the region. This is really a big plus.

We will definitely stay here again if we are in the region again.

We opted for a log cabin in the guest accommodation part of this working kibbutz. After a short drive from Haifa, we arrived early at reception to a very warm welcome! We had intended to just leave our bags for safekeeping while we explored the area, but they gave us the key to our cabin (this was before 11 am) straight away. We were also provided with a local map and another of the kibbutz and encouraged to explore both. We also were given advice on local restaurants (more on this below) and places to visit.

The cabin is wooden inside and out with a sitting room, kitchenette, large bathroom (with a jacuzzi) and a double bed room downstairs. Upstairs in a loft area there is sleeping for three more. At the rear there is a large balcony or terrace with spectacular views over the valley and mountains.

Breakfast is served in the kibbutz dining room and has a wide selection of cereals, salads, eggs, fish, breads, etc. This is a very comfortable way to experience the Israeli countryside and kibbutz living - with beautiful scenery on all sides.

Last night we went to Dag Dagan restaurant in Kibbutz Heftzibah which was recommended by the staff at our kibbutz as we checked in. The restaurant is in what was originally a cowshed which gives it character. We started with a selection of small salads and home made bread, both of which were really tasty. Then came the fish fillets we ordered and these were really fresh and delicious - I think I have found a new favourite restaurant! But we have a second recommendation to try this evening at Herb Farm!

This Ein Harod area is a really beautiful and relaxing place to visit.

Room Tip: Choose a log cabin rather than the basic accommodation.

We were in Israel for 2 weeks and this was my favorite place. We stayed in the IRIS suites which was absolutely fabulous. You can park your car right outside your cabin which has the ammenities of a modern condo, but inside a lofty cabin. Breakfast was brought to our room in the mornings, and we ate on our back porch with a view of Mount Gilboa. Our 'backyard' had an olive tree as well as a lime tree. The hot tub in the cabin was great as well as the spacious bathroom. The kitchenette which we didn't think we'd use came very handy. We brought home leftovers from dinner and were able to keep fruit and water cold. By staying at Ein Harod, we were given a 'discount card' which gave us discounts at the local sights which came in handy. You have to have a car to stay here, as meals are a drive away. So many great attractions are close by as well. We only had time for Gan Hashloshim which is a must...a stunning lagoon with waterfalls and Beith Alfa for the ancient synagogue. Such a fabulous, relaxing retreat!

Room Tip: Book an IRIS suite

First, the staff here was very friendly and helpful, and recommended a great nearby restaurant (nearby being relative, out in the country). The view from atop the hill, where the guesthouses are, is beautiful. And breakfast in the dining hall had extensive selections. We stayed in the lowest price room, which, from reading the reviews, is nothing like the higher end options. These rooms are older, dated, and very basic, with no extras for comfort or luxury. The rooms are basically like a lower end motel room in the USA. Paying $150 a night, I expected more than just one step up from a Hostel. There was no one thing that was objectionable, just that one should get more for this amount of money. Also, there are no clear signs for the Kibbutz, and we drove up and down the road a few times before noticing a sign which is only visible from the opposite direction, and which simply says "B and B", with no mention of Ein Harod Kibbutz. (But then, this is typical in Israel, where signage is inconsistent, to say the least!). All in all, there was a nice vibe here if you don't mind the price.

This kibbutz complex is a reasonable drive from many of the popular northern attractions and sites. The views are of the valley and Mount Gilboa are wonderful. Our mini-chalet was equipped with air conditioning, a kitchenette, a large bathroom including a whirlpool tub and a private balcony and garden. There is however no Internet or WiFi here that is accessible to guests. The lodges are self-catering although if you speak with the booking desk, you can arrange to eat in the main dining hall with the residents, which is both fun and the chicken schnitzel is delicious! This is a great location for families, couples and even solo travelers although you will need car access to reach it. The site itself is not well-equipped for individuals with physical disabilities as walking distances are far and the guest lodges are at the top of the hill. Service here was very inviting and efficient, we were treated like family! Do note though that many of the amenities like the dining hall may not be open on either Friday or Saturday - be sure to clarify what happens with the guest services on shabat. Other interesting tidbits regarding this kibbutz are an Olympic sized swimming pool, an onsite museum/gallery relating to the history of the kibbutz, a small convenience store and try to take a tour of the farm!

The Iris suites are semi-detached cabins that are a fantastic size with a: small kitchen (microwave not cooker) with seating, separate shower room, comfy seating area, a large jacuzzi bath - with view - next to the bed, and a private covered terrace and garden which looks out over the hills and valley.

Staff were really helpful and efficient, making restaurant recommendations and bringing a ridiculously large and delicious breakfast to the door within minutes of making the request! In addition to breakfast, guests are provided with a much appreciated selection of goodies, including fresh milk (from the kibbutz's dairy I think), teas/coffees, fruit (prunes, raisins etc), a 1/2L bottle of wine, and a card which provides discounts at local restaurants and sites.

We wish we'd stayed longer to really enjoy the place and its facilities (such as the pool and milking time at the dairy)! Oh, and as other's have indicated, the location's convenient for traveling around southern Galilee etc.

We stayed in one of the top-of-the-line Iris Suites; for couples only. The design was lovely; bed & furniture very comfortable, & the lighting best anywhere. The landscaping in front of the cottage was quite pretty; the small backyard private & pretty. Breakfasts delivered in the morning were huge & delicious. Staff was very friendly. It was very conveniently located to wonderful archeological sites in the southern GalIlee; about an hour from Tiberias.
