Stayed here with my mom and son over the weekend for some r&r. The place has an 80s vibe and is a bit ragged at the edges, but the management and staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to give you a good time. The entertainment troupe are adorable. The pool is suprisingly big for an urban hotel.
The food was suprisingly good: very fresh, lots of choice, and a cook who takes pride in the offerings. Negatives are the room, which is no-frills and unattractive but VERY clean; and the town itself, Nahariya, which is neither pretty or interesting. But the truth is that one doesn't have to leave the hotel since
there is lots going on, especially for the children.

I spent one night here with my wife and 3 kids, as part of a visit to local attractions (especially Rosh Hanikra). Had we paid less then we did, then I would probably be rating our experience at this hotel more favorably.

The plusses included a rather nice (if slightly crowded) swimming pool, very spacious and reasonably well decorated (interconnecting) bedrooms, a very tasty buffet supper, a nice (though not amazing) buffet breakfast.

Minuses included the somewhat strange hotel location (middle of town rather than right by the sea), and the consequential lack of parking which required me to pay to use a public car park; the unilateral decision by hotel staff to open the pool one hour later than publicised on a particular day "because some people had asked for that, so that they could keep it open an hour later in the afternnon"; very stained (and unappealing) bathtubs in both rooms, and the gently dripping aircon in my kids room (which we only discovered as we were leaving).

To be fair, the prices charged were not too bad when comapred to other Israeli hotels (which seem to have lost the plot lately) - but they still seemed a bit high for what was on offer. But if you want somewhere comfortable with a pool and decent meals for a family holiday, you could do alot worse - which is why on balance I would recommend it, without raving about it.

We've stayed at the Carlton a year before, and enjoyed it alot.
My review from 2007 is displayed below.
Once again, we were on a family vacation, a combination of adults and young kids aged 3 to 10.

This time our experience was mixed.
Beds- the mattresses were awfull. We asked the hotel staff to replace them and were told that all the beds in the hotel are the same.
Food- was not tasty as before. The package that we took included dinners- what a waste. You'd rather eat outside.
Over crowded- the pool and the dining room were packed with guests to a degree that it was not pleasant.

Perhaps this is how it works during the high season.

I went to Nahariya for business and stayed at the Carlton. The hotel which is centrally located, was a pleasant surprise. The rooms were clean, spacious with nice bathrooms. I got a corner room which I think added some space but I believe the other rooms would have been sizable as well. The breakfast, which is very important to Israelis, was nice with lots of choices. For about $140 a night (and I stayed at the lowest value of the dollar so it would usually be a little less) it is a great deal and I would be very happy to stay there again.

The Carlton is centrally located, a couple of minuets walk from the train station.

We received a newly renovated room which was very nice. It had a TV & air conditioning and was very clean. The food served at the hotel was good. We also enjoyed the pool.

Overall we had a nice experience and recommend the Carlton, just make sure that you request the newer rooms.

First stayed at the Carlton a good few years ago, and had been there on many occasions previously..

Of course it had changed - but for the better. It had had a comple modernising facelift, and in fact there was still some work being carried out, but this did not present any problems to guests.
My room was large and comfortable, and well serviced..

Breakfasts were up to Israeli standards (but alas there was no orange marmalade!) and it was difficult to get coffee at the table - the servers were seldom seen - but I think this was in large part due to the absence of on-the-spot management in the dining room. When these teething problems are attended to it will be fine.

And I will always be happy to return.

N. Lewis.
