Review of Zaccheus' Tree

Zaccheus' Tree
Reviewed April 7, 2018

Our guide said that this is not the original tree and this tree may be 800 years old. But the feeling is great about Zaccheeus who climbed on the tree to see Jesues

Jericho is said to be the most ancient, continually occupied city in the world. Archaeologists have unearthed the remains of more than 20 successive settlements, the first of which dates back 11,000 years (9000 BC). The Zaccheus Tree is just one of the interesting, albeit questionable places/things, in the Middle East. It is supposed to be the tree Zacchaeus the Tax Collector climbed to see Jesus. Well... it is very old, but is it really the tree and the spot - who knows, its the classic biblical tale that works here, so just take it on face value, and realized this is a VERY ancient spot.

Supposedly the Biblical tree Zaccheus climbed to see Jesus. Well first off you need to know your bible to know the story, second off there is nothing much to see, it's just a sycamore tree, thirdly, such tree has a life expectancy of about 250 years so you know its fake and lastly there are multiple such trees claimed to be the original depending on whom you ask in the town.

We only passed by here as we were on a whole day group tour, so gaining a story for 30 seconds view from the bus is not such a terrible experience.

There really isn't much here, but being able to see the same kind of tree at the same location as that used by Zacchaeus to get a better look at Jesus - that is pretty awesome. Plus, Jericho is still the longest continually occupied city in the world so that is also a reason to go visit.
Be warned: we ran into some protestors while we were passing through Jericho that made for a tense couple of minutes as they made threatening gestures to our bus, so make sure you get the opinion of your guide before going there.

Not much to see and not really worth the bother of stopping there . A short trip with nothing much to see.
