Heritage Inn
Ranked #1 of 3 Artesia B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence

We were charmed by Artesia, a cute old West town which is making an effort to keep their Main Street alive. Compared to the strip mall expanses of neighbouring Roswell and Carlsbad this is a far more characterful place to spend half a day and is less than an hour’s drive from either of them. The Heritage Inn is right in the middle of the nicest part of town.

We usually don’t like guesthouse setups because they are too intimate but this one is just the right size so that you feel neither conspicuous nor anonymous. It’s like staying at Grandma’s house, quaint, comfortable, warm and welcoming.
We had a large corner room overlooking the road which was very quiet at night with excellent black-out curtains. The air conditioner was very loud but with the windows open to the cool desert evening air we could do without it. The room had all the usual amenities, a reasonable shower in the small but clean bathroom and a wonderfully comfortable bed. The cold breakfast was pleasant and parking in the street is plentiful and free. The stairs up from the street are quite steep.

The competitive edge here comes from the considerate extras provided by someone who really cares about the enjoyment of your stay. Right from the first genuinely personalised e-mail confirmation of our booking, through the friendly welcome and recommendations for our visit, free extras like biscuits and popcorn to enjoy in your room, cost-price honesty bar and origami decorations on the towels and toilet paper to the pleasant and personal farewell we felt the difference between an impersonal chain hotel and this exclusive inn.

Room Tip: Our corner room had a nice breeze through it at night

Chose the Heritage Inn over the other Artesia hotels mainly for the consistent positive comments from other travelers. The wonderful experience and warm hospitality began at the time of booking with the innkeeper Ms Sue, particularly when our flight was cancelled by Delta Airlines on the day of our departure! Changes had to be made and Ms Sue was very helpful and understanding about it. You just can't help but become loyal when my husband and I were treated kindly on our first stay.

WOW! we exclaimed upon entering the room as it was lovely and looked and smelled very clean. The furnishing all looked new and toiletries were of good quality. Loved the view of the town from the window. We felt secure as you have to code in a number to be able to get in. The place was very quiet and it felt like home.

Breakfast was continental. Perhaps they can improve on it in the future by offering hot items.

We would like to stay there again on the next visit.

Sue is a gifted innkeeper. She is genuinely helpful, friendly and runs a perfect little inn. The room we had was in the front and was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The continental breakfast was very good. Travel information was available and Sue gave good recommendations.

Thanks for the pat on the back! We especially appreciated the comments you made about our "perfect little inn" being clean. Helen, Karen and Angela work especially hard to keep our place clean. As you know after being here in Artesia in the dry flat desert, just keeping up with the dust is quite a challenge. We hope where ever we sent you in the Southwest was as good as your visit here!

This quaint hotel was a great recommendation from a long-time guest. It's centrally located, historic, but nicely updated for modern times (great shower, bed, and internet). Sue was a very pleasant hostess. I heard many of the other hotels in the area were somewhat worn-out from the oilfield service guys. I will take my family to the Heritage Inn if we take a family vacation out this far.

I had to spend 4 days in southeast NM and decided to base my stay at the Heritage Inn. It was an easy drive to my other destinations and I was able to complete my paperwork each evening on the pleasant 2nd floor deck while enjoying a glass of wine. The room was quiet, very comfortable and clean. The breakfast is basic but enough to hold one over until lunch. The refrigerator in the room is a nice amenity. Most restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance. This will be my choice again when in the area.

We had a great experience at the a Heritage Inn! The innkeeper, Sue, was so friendly and helpful from the very beginning and throughout our trip. She was very knowledgeable about the area and provided us with honest and reliable recommendations. The room had a lot of charm. Wood floors and 3 large windows overlooking main street. It was very clean and the linens were extremely soft (I'm always happy when there are soft linens). All the rooms are on the second floor except for one. There is no elevator because it is an older building, but Sue is happy to help with your luggage if you need it. We didnt but it was a nice offer. The breakfast included everything I needed - bagels, yogurt, fruit, granola bars, hard boiled eggs, cereal, juice, coffee, and tea. I prefer this method to serve breakfast because it is less formal and more relaxed. It makes you feel more at home and you don't have to worry about waking up at a certain time. I like to sleep in when I am on vacation and here the breakfast is available until each guest has had a chance to enjoy it. The hotel is at most a couple of blocks from three restaurants - which are basically the only three restaurants in Artesia so the location is convenient. We traveled here to visit Carlsbad Caverns - which was amazing - and also enjoyed experiencing a taste of this quaint oil town. Next time we want to explore more of Carlsbad Caverns, we will definitely stay here!
