I had made reservations for Hotel Artesia eight months ago as part of our trip out west. We had visited Carlsbad caverns twice before and wanted to take our younger kids to see the beautiful caverns and the bats. We had previously stayed in Whites city and thought we could find something better on our way out of town toward Santa Fe. Therefore, I picked Hotel Artesia. We arrived at ten on a Saturday night. There was a police car in the parking lot with two officers speaking to people in the parking lot. We drove around the hotel twice as we could not find the lobby. As it turns out, the lights in the lobby were out to make the adjacent lounge darker. There were colored disco type lights emanating from the darkened lounge area. My husband went in to check in and the two young women at the desk said that our children were not allowed to walk through the lobby. My husband explained that we were not going to stay there and they said we would not get our money back as we had not cancelled by the four o'clock deadline. We left anyway and went up the road to Roswell, NM.
