Right next to the long sandy beach and with own pool and lots of lying chairs, this hotel must have been a top address. Nowadays the service is rather slow (check-out took 25 minutes and I had no extras and the room was prepaid). The room categories are not disclosed and for every thing you have to pay extra (wireless, use of fridge, yes, if you want to store something in the minibar, you either pay 5 USD or it will be removed and bined). One day i returned and my room door was half way open. Comment of security officer: "maybe the cleaner did not close the door properly".

Staying at this hotel was a nightmare. We would not recommend this to anyone.
Personal belonging not safe. Staff not discipline and not trustworthy.

lets start with the positives,. Lovely pool, good breakfasts. Updated rooms are impressive ( we stayed in a Garden suite).

Now for the downside.
we booked a year ago informinb the hotel that we have 2 children ( ages 14 and 10). On arrival, we were shown to our room ( which was upgraded) - problem ,room not big enough for a bed for the children. No worries - showed to a Junior Suite, The only downside being that it was a room not akin to to a 5^ hotelk - more like a 60's sit com. Carpet covered with chewing gum, holes in the curtains, fiilthy bedding ( you get the picture). After an hours arguing, we were offered a furher upgrade at a cost to a room which was, admittedly very nice ( buut on top of a hefty cost in the first place) ( and galling as our travelling friends were given the same room foc.
The hotel has an interesting service ethic - shout and it might getdone - room cleaning was a lottery 9 one night at 9.,30.
The pool is lovely buit, very criwded with people paying to come in at weekends - lots of noisy, badly behaved kids. On our last day, our ( well beghaved kids) were told off for diving in the pool as the lifeguard was giving diving lessons to one of his friends kids.
Overall, a very nice hotel, ruined by Fawlty Towers levels of management. This is not acceptable in a 5^ hotel ( or a 3* one for that matter). A real shame because as a beachside hotel, it should be excellent. Sadly, with the exception of a few staff who seemed to give a dam, it is not.
Would I go back ?
Never

The Shizen Spa Resort is located on the wing of the Daniel Hotel, Herzillia. Having its own private entrance to the left hand side of the main Daniel Hotel lobby. The Shizen is modelled on the Fen Swie, each room has the bad facing the Med Sea and are fitted out with superior fixtures and fittings than the standard hotel.

Breakfast is served in the dedicated restaurant on the ground floor and is of an excellent standard, mainly traditional Israeli although they also have a chef on hand to make omelettes of your choice.

The hotel has a no under 18’s rule and is therefore very quiet and peaceful, great to relax and let life gently pass along, that is until you venture outside into the swimming pool area!!

The swimming pool is open to all residents of the hotel, therefore your first challenge of the day is to find a suitable bed on the poolside, this is easy to obtain if you get up early (and I did) as if you don’t you will enjoy the spectacle of the locals and the French (we were the during the French holidays in August) running all over the poolside to obtain enough beds, chairs and whatever they can find to enable their family / party to be located near to one another, simple enough you would think but please think again!! – once midday has passed a steady stream of new sun worshipers arrive looking to be accommodated, we were there overt the weekend and were sure no checks were made regarding being a resident or not, the place was like a zoo! (tip, get up early before the madness starts!)

The beach is located via a set of wooden steps, some 2 mins away and is beautiful, the sea is very shallow although has masses of green algae floating, a little off putting at first but harmless.

Overall, we stayed for four nights and really enjoyed the experience.

Unlike earlier reviews on this website, our experience at the Shizen Spa was wonderful. The staff was very accomodating, the food was good and plentiful, the gym was sufficient and the massages were handled by expert masseuses. The outdoor pool had sufficient space for all who were there. Neither my wife or our friends who came with us had any complaints - only rave reviews. We would definitely go back again and highly recommend it to anybody looking for a few days (or longer) to get away.

I have just stayed at the Daniel for a week on a business trip. Reading the earlier reviews, I almost cancelled. That would have been a big mistake, as my stay in the Daniel was much better than the earlier reviews suggested. I guess every visit is different, but my experieince was:-
1. Excellent location - right on the beach, and an easy walk to the Herzlyia Marina with restaurants and bars.
2. Very good breakfast spread - a great selection of everything you would expect in Israel, from cereals through to vegetables, cheese and cold meats
3. Helpful front desk staff, who spoke excellent english
4. Comfortable room, cleaned daily.

Price might be an issue. I think that there are quite wide range of rates, depending on how you booked. And some services ( eg wifi Internet access) do seem a bit pricey, although the Business Centre had free access on its PC's.

Anyway, I will be returning shortly (again on business) - so I hope that they maintain their standards. On the basis of my last trip I am very happy to recommend the Daniel.
