“A must see in Akko”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

The fortress is interesting and quite impressive, with some massive structures, notably the Pillars Hall, which covers 1,300 square metres and has a massive cross-vaulted ceiling.
There are a variety of other impressive rooms and courtyards as well.
Unless you suffer from claustrophobia, the tunnels are also worth exploring and are covered by the entrance ticket.

“An Amazing Piece Of History”
Reviewed May 22, 2014

Here is a place that is an amazing part of the medieval religious wars that took place over a thousand years ago. The wars covered many years and were between the Catholics from Europe and the Saracens of the Middle East and the fighting was to regain Christian control over the main religious sites in the Holy Land.
This Fortress is a wonderful monument to the human endeavour and passion that existed at that time. When walking around one gets a wonderful sense of what occurred then and it is certainly worth a visit.

“Confusing map”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

The fortress was under construction when we visited, so we had some difficulty following the map. We had a very difficult time locating the tunnel. Follow a set of steps at the far end of the plaza to find the underground tunnel.
