“Not what you expect of a youth hostel”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

This is not what you expect a youth hostel to be. It is really like a simple hotel. The double room we got was huge. except for the double bed has also two single folding beds for children, a refrigerator and a microwave oven. It also had a large porch facing an inner court (other rooms had probably a better view). The price, ~$90/day, includes breakfast which, like in most Israeli hotels, is really more than a brunch.
The hotel in general and the room in particular were clean. The room was served every day. The staff were very helpful with sightseeing suggestions.

From outside looks like a castle or like a fort. The building is real impressive.
Also from inside the construction is spectacular because is surrounding some ancient ruins. they even have an amphitheater.
I had a double room which was enormous. Easily that room can accommodate 6 persons. Parking is not free, but a nearby parking can be found for about 15 ILS/day (if I remember well). The breakfast is good as food. As drinks is terrible (some very dubious juices were offered). Despite the drinks there is also a negative aspect: the cleanliness.
Pity for this hotel to have this cleanliness on halls and inside the room. if this aspect will be remediation it can looks like a luxury hotel not as guest and youth house
Another important aspect: is very close to the old city. So from this point of view is a very attractive deal.

I booked a room for three over the phone at this place, and was told very clearly that the rate included breakfast. I was not expecting anything great since we had booked at the last minute, and since it was pretty cheap. The room, located on the mezzanine, was clean but slightly crappy, with super old, worn out sheets and furniture, a very low ceiling. It was slightly noisy as it was right above the street and close to the reception area.

What I found disturbing was the owner's behavior. When we arrived, he claimed that we had never rented a room, even though I showed him the call register on my mobile phone. The following morning, he started making a mini-scandal when we asked to be served breakfast, claiming that the room rate did not include breakfast, when it did. He even stopped two guests as they came down, asking them to testify that their rate did not include breakfast either, at which point they said that... they had also been told it did upon booking, only to be told it did not upon arrival.

Akko is an amazing city to visit, with its fascinating things to see both above ground and below ground. This Youth Hostel provides incredibly good value (and a remarkable special is available on Booking.com). The Hostel is in a superb location, right at the entrance to the Old City. It is a brand new building, all rooms have balconies, and the staff are very helpful. Michael at the front desk and Shuki, who runs the kitchen, deserve special thanks for their courtesy.

So new it wasn't even on our map of Israel's Youth Hostels, this guesthouse is located right next to the Crusader fortress which is one of the main visitor attractions to the ancient port city of Akko/Acre and within a 10 minute walk of the Mediterranean Sea.

Parking is next door to the hostel and cost 20 Shekels/day at the time we stayed here.

Food was top notch and well presented. Rooms were new and well kept. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Everything about this place was excellent and worthwhile. Highly recommended!

We stayed here in July of 2012, our only complaint was that we hadn't stayed here longer, this place was fantastic and great value for money.
We were a group of three separate family's and even though there were a few little hick ups they were sorted very quickly in fact the staff could not do enough for us! I would highly recommend this to everyone and the next time we are in Israel this will be where I will be coming.
The rooms are really spacious and you get your own balcony which for us was lovely so we could sit out having a few drinks looking over the Old city of Akko.

We'd had great experiences recently with youth hostels in Israel, and we came here after seeing a notice about a special on the Israel Youth Hostels website (www.iyha.org.il). This hostel overlooks the main old city gate. The building itself is new and the rooms were large. Great balcony overlooking the old city walls. We were there for the weekend so there were many meals, all very good. Of course the price was much lower than even a cheap hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the old city with a balcony.
