“Peaceful Christmas”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

We spent a few days in Alang Alang over Christmas and really enjoyed our stay.

We found the rooms charming and clean and the staff friendly and attentive. The hotel is set in a lush, well-tended tropical garden and you will find petals from the many frangipani trees scattered around your room. The whole ambience is quiet and relaxing which was perfect for us. The restaurant is a beautiful place to watch the sunset from.

Be aware that the hotel is not on a beach. There are steps leading down to a rocky shore which has a tiny beach area revealed at low tide. A fairly short walk along the sea wall past the neighbouring hotels takes you to the slightly scruffy main beach (not helped by the black sand). There are quite a few hawkers on the beach and they walk through the hotel grounds too. However, they aren’t too persistent if you aren’t interested in buying. There’s some noise from the nearby road – occasionally disturbing if a particularly loud vehicle goes by or they are working on the road. If you like using a bar of soap, take one with you. There’s only shower gel in the bathroom. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it would be useful if there was information about the hotel and the island in the room. We liked Alang Alang and would recommend it if you’re looking for somewhere quiet. Probably not suitable if you are looking for somewhere with more to do or if you have children.

Room Tip: I think you would be disappointed with the experience if you didn't have a sea view room.

We spent 4 days at this hotel and had a very relaxing time. It was the end of the season and there were very few guests. The room was spacious and clean - but no wardrobe or anywhere to hang your clothes, only shelves or drawers. There was no information in the room about the hotel or the island. I had to ask at reception for a hair dryer. The bathroom was in need of an update. On a positive note - the staff were very friendly and helpful. The view of the sea from our room was beautiful. Breakfasts were excellent (we had breakfast included with our room), and we were able to chose anything from the menu - all cooked to order. The food in the evening was very good. Gardens and grounds well kept.
I do not think this is a great place for children (not that I had any!) as the pool is very deep in places and the children's pool is small, also there is no beach - only rocks with sandy patches.

Room Tip: Ocean view - the view is spectacular!

I loved the spacious room, the open air bathroom and the coolness. Also it was bug free and I had no concerns at all. However it is very quiet and only 3 or 4 people there. There is no organised tour or any visits to anywhere. Constant roadworks were ongoing outside the resort and all the way in to Sengiggi. Took numerous taxis into town, some had seatbelts, others did not Didnt appreciate the constant pressure from those selling goods. They would wait until I came out of the water(even if I was an hour) and 4 or 5 would surround me and follow me up to my cabin cajoling me to buy things and even putting their arm around me! This was all the time. Visited the Sheraton up the road. Soft Indonesian music playing, a notice board advising of day trips and an easy access beach were plusses. No hawkers allowed to hassle guests. If Alang Alang just adopted the soft music playing and informed guests of what activites there are it would be a big plus. Staff were fine and very kind

Room Tip: Rooms fronting the sea obviously the best. Beach not easy to access

Very disappointed with this hotel, for the price we paid we would've expected a 4.5 star, but instead more of a 2.5-3. Very average rooms, average pools. Very old and quiet. It was pretty to look at but not so comfortable to sleep. The baby cot was very old and rusty, like something you'd pick up from an old garage sale. I like the open bathroom but i feel a bit unsafe at night, like anyone could jump your bathroom walls open the bathroom door and they're in your bedroom.

They don't even provide a buffet breakfast.
This hotel just seems so completly lifeless compared to the hotel inn' just a couple of metres down the road, (my mum & aunts stayed at that hotel). There was a happening pool bar, happy hours and even live entertainment at night with a buffet style dinner. Much more activities for families. Much more happening AND 'the holiday inn' was CHEAPER than alang alang, I really don't know how they justify the price when there newer better hotels just next door.
But at least we did get a nice sunset view straight off our balcony.

I think that this is the best option near or arround Sengiggi, it is a little bit apart from it all but the trip in a metered taxi any hour to Sengiggi itself is no more than 1-2 dollars with plenty of taxis coming and going all day, during the day a good option is to take the bemo no mor than 10 or 20 cents, Sengiggi is the best option to go dining if you do not want to dine at the hotel. The hotel is great the bungalows extremely nice with all the amenities you can need the bathroom perfet open air showers, the staff helpfull and nice if you need anything just tell them and they will do it for you, this is a place not to be missed a heaven on earth do not miss the pool with the litle cave every single dollar is well paid in this place, go and see it yoursellf.

Room Tip: take a Bemo and go sight seeing arround cheap and nice experience

We arrived at Alang-Alang after spending a week in S. Bali. We were blown away by the setting, the view, the room and the staff. After spending a week in crowded, busy, littered, noisy Seminyak, I said, "This is what I'm talking about!" when we arrived at Alang-Alang. The photos (of other guests) say it all. It's gorgeous and the staff is very efficient, friendly, and helpful. I hope to come back.

Room Tip: We were able to have a room directly on the beach. You might request it when making your reservatio...

Nice boutique hotel with few rooms (16?), set in a superb exotic tropical garden, some with sea views and all very quiet. It has a fantastic location in quie aristocratic Mangsit, just North of more populated Sengigi.
The rooms are beautifull & comfortable and a lot of charm. The place is very quiet, ages from busy-noisy Sengigi. The restaurant has views on the sea and offers excellent food; the gardens go till the sea and allow you to rest on the lawns afetr swimming. The swimming pool is large, beautifull and looks like a tropical pond.
Service is excellent.
Certainly an excellent address when in Sengigi/Mangsit.
