“Lombok and the Gilis ...... a top drawer holiday”
Reviewed May 4, 2010

After a week in Bali which was beautiful once I escaped Kuta headed to Lombok and then the Gilis..... I would recommend both for quality hotels, fantastic beaches, diving, snorkelling and a really nice pace of life. This is Bali 30 years ago

“a perfect getaway”
Reviewed April 2, 2010

Lombok island has a lot beautiful untouched beaches. a breathtaking view along the south coast, a nice white sand and a nice place to do water activity.
Visit the Gili islands, 3 small island at north Lombok. Nowadays, a lot resorts and hotels that offering a tour packet to explore the whole island and other islands at Nusa Tenggara Barat of Indonesia

“visa - taking advantage of tourists”
Reviewed February 21, 2009

we had booked a seven day trip to lombok from singapore. upon arrival we had a long discussion about the visa and finally got the 7 day one instead of the 30 days one. when leaving we were told we overstayed and need to pay penalty. our stay was 7 days but according to indonesian counting 8 days. actually this was applied to any foreign tourist leaving with the same flight we did. they forced everybody to pay a penalty. there was no choice as they were telling the foreigners their flight would go without them if they did not pay. so finally everybody paid in hard currency taken from next door s ATM.
advice: take the 30 days visa for indonesia or rather pick another holiday destination than lombok !

“Watch your ways”

Driving in Lombok is not the best experience, especially when you try to stop to have a break from driving.

People would never let you to stop and enjoy the local sceneries even when you just sitting in your car. People were simply came from out of the blue - and they "surrounded" you and beg you for money!

Senggigi is fine, but not the South part of Lombok.

We even worried to stop to ask the police to get information as they might put you into trouble.

This happened on the way to Kuta beach, down South of Lombok. We had a clash with some dudes there as we felt we had been trapped for money.

We planned to stay over in Kuta beach but changed mind and drove further to Sumbawa. It was just a nightmare!

The roads were not well-maintained. The traffic (big trucks) were just amazingly hard to reduce their speed even when they reach the traffic lights.

Preferable to drive your own car but try to consider where you want to stop for a break. Also, bring your own detail-map with you.

“A peaceful little island...”

I am sure that most of you have been to Bali, the renowned heaven on Earth that is located at Indonesia. It is a wonderful place. However it is too crowded and older people might find it too noisy. I would like to recommend you guys to go to Lombok. It is located just next to Bali, around 15 mins by plane.
It is a wonderful and great place. It is much quieter and the beaches are extremely clean. The sea is as blue as the sky. The weather is really nice and warm. I have spent a whole day at the beaches and I simply enjoyed the experience of being there.
The place is quite conservative so you should not go to the beaches at the main land, you are not able to wear swim-wear. Instead, you can to Tiga Gili Islands. There are located very near to the main land and you can easily get a boat to transport you to the islands. It only takes around 20 mins to 30 mins to get there.
There are three islands or GIli and each of them has their own beaches and places of interests. You can do scuba diving at the sea around the islands. The water is extremely clean so you can see the sea creatures clearly. The islands have hotels and motels, so you can spend nights there.
Oh yeah, the food is also great. Try Lombok's famous morning glory or kangkung, it is very juicy and the taste is incredible. And the Taliwang chicken, it is really delicious. It has a unique taste. Try one at a restaurant which has a letter 'M' on its name, I forget what is the exact name of it hehe,
Well hopefully my review is useful to you guys and please go to Lombok, you will never forget the experience of being there. Thanks and see you guys.
