“Stunning setting a little too structured”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

You couldn’t ask for a more spectacular location or journey. The cottage was clean and simple overlooking the gardens, natural swimming pool, animals and impossibly green rice paddies. It is in an isolated spot so you will need a bike to get around, but as everywhere on Lombok this was straightforward and cheap. The guesthouse was very efficiently run, a little too much for our relaxed tastes. We had to choose our dinner in the morning, I always find this a bit tricky to decide so far in advance, and sit down at 7pm prompt with the other guests to eat. This does make for a sociable environment but more flexibility would make the stay a little more relaxing.

We loooved to stay here! Roland and Tony are very pleasant people to stay with and the views are superb! All the animals are very fun, especially dog Ayu, she will come with you when you go on a walking through the rice fields and woods. We did a trip from the hotel and it was very nice. If you want to climb the mountain you sould be well trained. Love to come back here some day!

Room Tip: There are also tents to choose from.

I stayed here with my partner earlier this year and we really enjoyed it. The room was simple but cool and comfortable. It was such a relief to sleep somewhere with the windows open without worrying about mosquitos. The views are breathtaking. The meals hearty. The animals entertaining. The hosts eccentric and charming. All in all, if you're looking to feel the fresh air, escape the tourist trap and engage with the real island, then you won't go wrong.

You are in perfect hands here at Rinjani mountain garden. The place is run by two Germans Toni and Roland, they are just sharing their piece of heaven with us actually.

Toni welcomes you with her broad smile..This place is even a vegetarians delight. Toni took proper care of us by getting us a table Fan (especially for us and got it fixed in our room) and got plain curd (yoghurt) for us.. All these purchases had to be made from a place which was quite far away and they never charged anything extra from us.

The whole place is filled with greenery and the photos you see here are for real :) Tiu Telep and Seng Lila waterfalls are nearby and Johny takes you on a trek to these waterfalls. You can walk through forests, paddy fields and fill your lungs with as much good oxygen as possible :)

I cant thank Toni enough for the wonderful time we had with them. Vegetarians get enough good veg food here which was a pleasant surprise for us :)

Note: Gili (Air, Meno and Trawangan) Islands can be reached by boat from a place which is one and half hours away from the homestay.. The airport is almost three and half hours away from the homestay.

Room Tip: The downstair rooms can be painful because of the creeks/noises from the wood houses on top. So pref...

if you like natural setting and animals, you got to stay here for enjoying natural "kampung"village padi field . i stay in a tradition bangalow in the middle of the padi field. every day you wake up ,first thing you see was a nice scenic rice field view.
The pet animal are roaming free in this garden setting homestay. Managed by a nice couple from German. Mr Roland and Mrs Toni.
By the way ,Toni was a good cook, no matter western or indo food, you have to try it out.
i stayed here for 3 nights, and strongly recommend this place if you like places without TV,WiFi but only fresh air and green.

I was here for one night about a week ago and it was probably the most beautiful spot we stayed in our 12 days in Lombok. Although we stayed in a simple bungalow, the surrounds made it as good and probably even better than being at a five star resort. I would gladly travel all the way to Senaru, just to spend a day or two here reading a book on the sun lounges whilst overlooking the rice paddies and ocean in the distance. It's also really reasonably priced for food and accommodation, given the surroundings. Thanks for creating such a stunning place!

This little paradise is hidden in some remote area near Senaru, a big beautiful uphill garden surrounded by fields and lush plantation, where you can see Mountain Rinjani in a distance on a clear day. I still remembered that when Roland picked us up by his car he joked abt he has a monkey/2 horses/3 dogs/4 cats and one wife:)
Everything was just so great, the tasteful wooden bungalow (we stayed in the smalled one, which is called 'Bungalow Lumbung Antik'), the hot shower, the food(we especially love the curry, tomato cucumber salad and their special Rinjani fish!), the view, the garden...like a list, I could go on and on forever..but what impressed us most is the hospitality, kindness, generosity of the owners- the great couple- Roland and Toni.
It started during my inquiry via email before the trip. They replied quickly with very comprehensive details about their service of accommodation, excursion and transport, also with honest prices, any information I asked or I might need even I didnt ask yet.
We decided to go there 1 day later than we originally planned since we spent 1 more day at the previous place, but Roland didnt even complain or blame us and picked us up on time. Toni did us laundry once with a very fair price, yeah, I mean 'very', no where else we traveled could do with that price.
They arranged one of their staff to guide us and some other guests a half day trip to 2 waterfalls and rice fields, and proposed us to share the cost of the whole excursion, its also very cheap, i mean I could imagine that many other owners might just charge more and we wont even complain...the trip was amazing, we got lots of new experience through the jungle trail/river/fields, and it was great to be companied with 2 of their dogs.
They got lots of animals in the garden, and seems being well taken care of. they are like a big family living in perfect harmony, kinda of life in fairy tale...one day Ayu and Nigra- 2 of their dogs- even took us for a short trekking along a water trench to the rice fields when they saw we were wandering at the back gate of the yard! it was so lovely. another day I found a dog-probably a wild one-trapped in a deep pit nearby outside their garden and he was desperate to get out while the pit is quite deep abt 6m, but finally Toni got him out and saved his life!
Roland also did us a great favor for helping us to book and purchase flight tickets back to Bali due to the unexpected temporary shutdown of the ferry between Lombok and Bali. He even proposed how some other guests and us should share the transport to save the expense, and we were so appreciate that he drove us to airport leaving at 6am early morning! and they didnt ask us to pay the whole bill until we got to the airport, and no problem at all that I paid some of the bill with dollars since I didnt have enough rupiah left due to the change of plan (well,we've been to a few places where always got an issue with the currency we paid), and the exchange rate they offered was higher than many places...
Well, what can I say, to see is to believe..It was them to make me believe again that not all the people doing business only for money; but I dont really think they are running a business, I think they are doing the best to share their lifestyle their happiness their paradise with those who would understand and appreciate.
We already miss there...
