Gili Nanggu is very small island with quite good snorkeling and that's all. I didn't even think of staying in hotel there, better option is to fix a tent around ;)
As I said, better to take it as a part of your trip around few islands. We've rented boat from Tawun village for one day with "driver" for 250rb, and go around 4 gilis there which are empty islands. Grab your favourite book and snorkel mask and enjoy your time.

Great snorkelling, off the beach, beautiful white sand, good coral and great easy access off beach.
The staff are super friendly and hospitable but the island is somewhat in need of repairs. Canoes and boats were broken so unable to be hired. Some cottages under renovation, we were the only two tourists on the island, and we treated very well! However, we had to relocated from a traditional cottage to a villa, for the airconditioning! Extremely hot in the two storey cottages (only a tiny fan). They need large fans!
Island has a turtle hatching and coral growing program, very successful and underrated. This would be a great avenue for them to increase tourism.
Unfortunately, this island needs some $$$ to fix up the bathrooms (some only have sea water), clean the public areas, and beautify the resort so more tourists visit. Also, needs a swiming pool and comfy chairs to sit in.However, I still recommend it as a peaceful, quiet place to relax, we spent 2 nights here, and enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Choose air conditioning, it was soooo hot in the traditional cottages, even though they are more bea...

A perfect place if you look for a small, quiet island with few tourists, clean beaches, white sand and fish just metres from the shore. We stay in the cottage for one night. Row of cottages facing the backyard of the island need renovation. and the hotel employees need to clean the area around the hotel. The restaurant is ok but it is far from the cottage, which has no telp and dark.

Room Tip: Standard room which is cheaper than cottage has a better location

we stayed at gili nanngu standard cottage for five nights. although most of the standard cottages do not have a direct seaview and have a set of sparse trees in front of them we got lucky as we had the one at the outer corner of the row of cottages which was just steps from the beach and with a seaview. The cottage consisted of an elevated floor where the bedroom and the sitting room are whilst underneath there is a lovely terrace with a bench and a long chair. You can hire hammocks from the resort for 30,000 IDR/day but if you have your own even better. The resort also hires snorkeling mask for 15,000 IDR per day but again better to have your own equipment.
You need to be prepared for differentiation in the amount of breakfast you get depending on whether you hire the sea view cottages, the standard cottages or the bungalows. The more expensive the larger the breakfast you get. As there is only a restaurant on the island and nothing else it makes sense to stock up with water and food, like fruit and snacks, for during the day and have only one paid meal at the restaurant. I am saying this because the restaurant is much more expensive than what you pay in Lombok or Java plus it has 15,5% tax added on top of the total price you pay for each meal. The quality of the food is mediocre for the price too. Go for the indonesian fare rather than pizza and other western meals. We got pinneapples, bananas and some dry snacks, which keep really well for four-five days as well as dissolvable tea and water . The resort provides a jug of water for free every day but it is always good to have a bit extra. overall a lovely experience, great snorkelling, can walk around the island in twenty minutes, explore all the reef around it and get a great sun tan! very romantic too and not too crowdy at all unlike the gilis of the north.

Room Tip: if you fancy listening to the sound of the sea during the day and the night choose either the sea vi...

We are seasoned backback type travelers and have seen many little islands in our travels. We visited Nanggu after spending a few days in Gili Trawangan and Sengiggi. The island looked promising as we approached, but after landing and shown the rooms we were sorry we came. Everything on the island is very run down and need of repair or tear down. The staff was pleasant, the snorkeling was easy and water filled with a great variety of fish, but as for the accommodations, we would have rather camped in a tent. There is a shortage of fresh water, the plumbing in the "bathroom" was leaking and broken. At best Nanggu is only suitable as a day trip for snorkeling.

This hotel is a mass of contradictions. Positives first:

Gili Nanggu, the island itself, is nothing less than Paradise. It is without doubt the star of the show. Beaches with white fluffy sand, an amazing coral reef just metres from the shore giving awesone snorkelling, some rocky peninsulas, and a densely forested interior. If you ever wanted to get away from it all to enjoy your own desert-island fantasy (with the luxury of a decent bed) on a budget, then this is the place to do it.

The accommodation itself is fine and reasonably priced. You pay for fresh water but get salt-water showers - which is also ok. The rooms are huts-on-stilts: bedroom areas are on the first floor, a relaxation area and private bathroom in the shade below. But as all the huts are in a long row, when you relax below your own you feel as though you are in an uninterrupted space with all the other guests. Privacy - forget it. Not that there's anything wrong in sharing a space with other people of course, but frankly this choice of layout in a resort selling the idea of remoteness and seclusion feels very odd.

The restaurant is located in the island's interior in a utilitarian kind of building with a tin roof, where you sit at plain tables covered with cloths peppered with cigarette-holes and eat, at best, second-rate food which was the most expensive we ate in Indonesia. Again, an interesting choice on an island, where other options might have included eating in pergolas right beside the beach enjoying a lovely evening breeze as opposed to the still heat and insects of the interior.

The behaviour of the staff was the most disappointing aspect of the resort. As we climbed off the boat which brought us, a young man strode down the beach towards us with a big smile on his face... and walked straight past us to greet his friends driving the boat. Ok, we thought, and headed for reception, where 3 members of staff were watching a loud television and scarcely looked up as we signed in. Sadly this was not just a bad start, but the way things are done on Gili Nanggu. If you wish to speak to anyone, the best way to do so is to stand in front of the television. The one exception was the restaurant manager, who was always helpful and cheerful. The island dog, Bintang (named after the local beer) was also friendly.

There appears to be a big problem here. The staff are poorly managed and seem exceptionally demotivated. Cleaning is done when and if someone feels like it. Litter from the sea (certainly not the fault of the staff, just a sad fact of life) washes up - and stays there. Gili Nanggu is Paradise, but it's Paradise with plastic bottles and other detritus strewn everywhere and not collected or managed in any way. If you can shut your eyes to all that and ignore the staff ignoring you, then Gili Nanggu is a perfect getaway. If good management is implemented, the resort will thrive, and I genuinely hope it does. As it is we came for 6 days, and left after 3.
