Located in Bajawa, Bena village is the oldest village built by etnic Ngada, Flores. Bajawa is rich with culture whereby tourists enjoy spending their time to see other ethnic aside from Bena village.

The village is not built for commercial purpose but elder Ngada villager still lives here to preserve the culture.
The houses is built made of wood board and bamboo, and the roof is made of alang alang (straw).

Although they are Catholic as their religion, they still adopts animism and dynamism.

The weather is cool here. You can by traditional weaving fabric (kain tenun ikat) from the villager.

Other cultural village is waerebo, but it is harder to reach as it needs 4 hour trekking through the forest. Bena village is more convenient as we can reach there by car.

Most popular village in this region, almost every traditional house changed to shop with sarongs and other handmade stuff for tourists. People are just waiting for you near their houses to approach you and sell something. I had better time in less popular villages around Bajawa ;)

I took a day trip from my hotel (Happy Happy Hotel) and during this trip we visited Bene village, 2 smaller villages and hot springs. All the tour was excelent and I recommend you to do a trekking tour like this when you're in Bajawa. Ngada villages were the highlight of course. If you go with a guide he will explain to you all about Ngada belief system and ceremonies. All the villages we visited were almost empty of tourists. Bene was the most touristic one (maybe 5-10 other people) but also the most impressive and picturesqe one. The 2 smaller villages had no tourists but us and the villagers were very friendly. A must do in Bajawa.

very touristy but looks traditional. There are other villages that are less touristy. We travelled in September, so not that busy.

this small traditional village is very beautiful. I was traveled here from bajawa by car, the road was small and the scenery was beautiful especially in a clear sunny day. There was a view point you could stop by in the mid way to the village where you could see the village on the foot of Mt Inari.
