“Great staff but not a good choice”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

I followed the recommendations of the lonely Planet to book this place and definitely I think I made a mistake.
From a positive point of view, I have to say that staff is great, helpful, nice, funny...everything positive. Also the restaurant is very good although too slow.
However the rooms are very poor and not very clean. Toilet facilities are terrible and open to the room. Almost not water in the shower and only cold water in a place where it is quite cold at night.
Unfortunately the balance value-quality is not positive. There are many places to stay in Moni better than this one for a better price.

This is an extremely basic accommodation. The room was clean but in poor conditions. The toilet wasn't working and the shower was useless. A lot of insects and geckos will keep you company. Great location if you have to visit the Kelimutu craters lakes. Very cheap.

A nice spacious cleanish room, with a big open-plan bathroom and flushing toilet and a handbasin in the room. Be aware that they don't supply toilet paper or soap. There were also no towels in the room, asked for some and got one (between 2). Have your shower before the sun goes down as there is just cold water and it is cool at night here. The bed was large and comfy and even had a mosquito net (but the bedding looked kind of grimy). There is no other furniture in the room. You can sit outside on the long balcony and enjoy a cuppa whilst looking out to the view of the hills and ricefields. This is also where they serve breakfast (a banana pancake). Although this place is located on the main road, there's not too much traffic after dark so you can have a good night's sleep until the roosters start crowing very early!
Moni is really a very small village but the locals are pretty friendly, so take a walk down the main street and check out the local church or go to the market during to day to see what the locals are doing (and even buy some ikat cloth).

Nice, simple hotel for catching a few hours of sleep before the classic pre-dawn trek to Kelimutu. The room was large, sparsely furnished and clean as was the bathroom. We returned mid-morning after the hike for a cold shower and a breakfast of banana pancakes, fruit and coffee. Breakfast was served in the typical Flores way, on the deck in front of the room, looking out over the garden and farm fields beyond.

The Hidayah has four very basic guestrooms. They only furniture was a large bed and one bedside table in the room. I believe other rooms had twin beds. There was no place to put your things. There is no A/C - it's not needed as it can get cool there, especially at night. I feared the comforter on the bed would not be enough to keep warm. But, it was. it might have been a problem if there had been two people in the bed since it wasn't a large comforter. Above the door and windows were wire-meshed windows that couldn't be closed and let the cool air and some noise (not too much) into the room.

I had to request a bar of soap and toilet paper for the bathroom. The shower is a cold water shower. The day I left, they ran out of water. I was told a pipe burst in the village. One of the guests was able to take a shower in the family's house. So, not really sure about the burst pipe. They brought me a bucket of water (cold) upon request so that I could do a basic wash before traveling that day. They gave one towel with the room. If there is something you must have, I'd bring it yourself.

There is no on-site restaurant. The Rainbow Cafe is a short walk away. But, for other restaurants, it would be best to have your own transport as I don't remember seeing any taxi's. They did include a small breakfast of a pancake and fruit which was made in the owners house.

The location for going to Kelimutu is wonderful.
