We stayed here for one night last August during our trip through Flores. Moni offers the best access to the Kelimutu crater and it probably has several other hotel options, but we arrived late and we were in need of a triple room, so we decided to take a standard room with an extra bed (cheaper) and not a triple in a villa.
Boys at the reception were very helpful and quick in preparing the triple room.
Room was clean, but it smelt a little musty, probably because it was on ground floor under the reception, among trees and a few steps from a river.
Bathroom was pretty small, but there was hot water and was fine for one night.
After the Kelimtu trekking, we had breakfast that was really good, good toast with scrambled eggs or pancake.
Should I stay longer, I would cnsider staying in a villa, anyway standard room can be a good option for one night.

This was the best hotel I stayed at in Flores. I had Villa #3 which was clean, comfortable with excellent lighting. The garden bathroom was lovely. The room had good views of the mountains and the included breakfast was plentiful and excellent.

There are 5 villas (as well as standard rooms) and in eyeballing them, I can say that
Villa #1 is across from reception and may be a little noisier
Villa #2 has an obstructed view of the mountains due to trees
Villa #3 - good views
Villa #4 and #5 - good views and are closest to restaurant

There is a small gift shop at reception and I thought the books and weavings were a bit overpriced, but they were unique.

A good place for weavings not far from the hotel is the town of Sikka, which has a lovely and historic Portuguese Church as well as ladies who will demonstrate the weaving process and show you their pieces. It was a great place to buy.

Room Tip: Stay in one of the villas, you won't regret it.

This eco lodge is one of 3 we stayed at in Indonesia. Our tour was organised through Uduyana Eco Lodge in Bali where we stayed 1 night before going on to Flores where we also stayed at Labuan Bajo Eco Lodge. We can recommend this company to arrange a fantastic holiday and provide excellent accommodation, special tasty local food and friendly helpful staff, all making for a great holiday. We particularly loved Kelimutu Crater Lakes Eco Lodge where the kitchen staff provided us with a wonderful selection of local traditional food. Ritha took us to the local markets to shop for some of the ingredients.
One BIG TIP for travelling in Flores. It gets REALLY COLD in the mountains so unlike other places in Indonesia you need some warm clothes with you

Room Tip: Bungalows are the best for couples, roomy, confortable, nice garden views

A series of chalet style rooms with balconies overlooking a small river and rice padies just out of the town of Moni. Perfect location for visiting the Kelimutu crater lakes; as well as waterfalls; hotsprings; bird watching walks and traditional villages in the area. Rooms are charming; lots of natural materials such as feature walls made of the famous blue stones of flores and beautiful traditional weaving. Everything was immaculately clean, beds were brand new and comfortable and each room had a private outdoor bathrooms with solar water. Great restaurant and professional caring staff - not only did they organise day trips, cars, drivers and tours; they rang our driver after we left to make sure we were travelling safely. This eco-lodge is in a class of it's own in a remote location packing with things to do.

We stayed here for one night recently as access to Kelimutu during a trip on the trans-Flores highway.
While it is clean, and there is hot water and the bedding/rooms/bathroom etc are excellent, it is a pity to see westernised buildings, westernised prices for both rooms and food (highest by far in all Flores) and nothing looking very eco at all.
Worth looking at other options like Bintang in town.

Response:
The Kelimutu Crater lakes Eco Lodge has the following Green Globe and Sustainable Tourism eco characterisitcs
(1) the only hotel in Indonesia that is fully powered by the sun with low power bulbs
(2) 50% hot water powered by the sun
(3) all sewage and grey water recycled onto the gardens with NO contamination of underground water
(4) all staff are local from the village of Moni having been trained by us from scratch
(5) rubbish is divided into clean paper, plastic, bottles, cans and dirty plastic/paper; only latter burnt with others recycled
(6) much of our food is grown in our gardens
(7) special builder from Bali employed to use local materials eg thatch roofing, local stone etc and style for building and local building artisans
(8) direct links with local businesses (especially women weavers and guides) and the National park to promote them
In summary the Management of ECOLODGESINDONESIA totally rejects the negative inference that our lodge is not eco and uses westernised buildings

Our first night in Flores. A long drive from the capital and a short distance from the Kelimutu Crater Lakes.
It was dark, cold and we arrived late. A basic but clean room, the big plus was that it had hot water. Downside, we dont know how they wash there bed sheets but both of us were itchy and scratched ourseves, we thought it may be ants but there was no evidence of our 4 legged friends. Not sure if there is anything better in the area. OK for a one pushing it to two night stay but nothing more.

Room Tip: Ask for a seperate chalet we ended up staying above the kitchen as there are 4 rooms there.

We stayed here our first night in Flores - in a holiday packed full of highs staying at the Eco Lodge Moni was a highlight within itself.

We stayed in one of the chalets. Everything was very clean (a quality not to be taken for granted I was to learn throughout the course of our trip) and the bed was very inviting with white cotton sheets and cosy duvet. The bathroom had western fittings and is open air - having a hot shower under the morning sun after having done the chilly Kelimutu sunrise climb was a moment I will cherish.

The location is even more stunning. The lodge is set in the midst of beautiful unspoilt Flores countryside - it's quite a distance from the town so it is very quiet and peaceful. In fact the only sounds are that of the river bubbling away and the birds in the forest opposite the lodge. And the nighttime sky is worth the trip alone!

We only stayed one night as we had one week to cross Flores. I wish we could have stayed longer! I understand that there are some nice walks that can be done in the area and the cooler climate in Moni makes for more pleasant walking conditions.

I would recommend this place to anyone - it was the nicest accomodation we found in Flores by a considerable distance.
