This Hotel is definately faded glory! It may at one time in the past have been "THE" Hotel in Medan but since the arrival of the big names, it's faded into insignificance. It remains popular with the Rich Chinese population of Medan and the restaurant is 100% focussed on this market. I was here 5 time in 2010 as tour leader with Dutch Groups. The food was pretty awful, with strange chinese dishes that were unrecognisable. The chairs in the restaurant are also filthy and much too low for the tables which makes you feel like a 10 year old at the dinner table. I always ended up at the KFC accross the street on the corner of the intersection.

Lobby is pretty tatty and dirty, bar is terrible overpriced and the rooms may have been nice many years ago when they were new, but that seems a long time ago and not a lot has been done since. They offer WiFi in the rooms, but in reality it never works. Possible to get a connection in the Lobby but the airco is not good so it's hot and you get eaten alive by mosquitoes if you sit too long in the Lobby.

Lot's of duty managers running around with walkie talkies looking important but they never actually do anything and are incapable of solving a problem when one arises. Dutch GM that seems pretty incapable if you ask me.

They have a disco downstairs that seems to be THE place for the prostitutes of Medan. Deafening music, give it a miss.

Do yourself a favour and check out the JW Marriot in Medan. 1000% better..

I was travelled alone at the time, I rented the twin bed standard room because at first plan that I will stay with a friend of mine, in the contrary I stayed alone.
Not everyone without room cards can come up to your room, they will check if you have guests then they will allow the guest to come up. That's why I feel secure even if I'm travelling alone.

The room is spacious, clean and lots of sunshine coming into the room. The bathroom also spacious and clean. The service ok and there are various foods serve on breakfast.

Nice hotel with some areas which have been renovated. Rooms could do with a more modern finish. Liked the breakfast spread. The hotel was also helpful in changing my booking as I had to reduce my planned stay.

Used to be the best hotel in Medan about 5 years ago. Since then so many better hotels, with rate not too much more than G. Angkasa Hotel. Points observed.

1. Internet free but spotty at best. Several times the connection was reduced to a snail's pace.

2. Requested water and tea, had to call 3 times, The Operator Jeffrey kept saying, he has asked housekeeping. Poor guy.

Finally after over an hour, Mr. Edy arrives with the Water and tea, and after explaining to him that housekeeping must be busy because I've waited over an hour, he had no expression, and left .

3. Swam in the small pool, and since my shorts were wet, wanted the towel to bring to the room. Was told guest are not allowed to bring to towels to the room. Amazing, I'm dripping wet, and they did let me bring my towels. I insisted and told her not to worry, gave my room number, and assured them I'll bring the towels back, which I did.

4. Some rooms are really cold, Aircon off, yet still freezing cold. Some rooms even with A/C full blast, room still hot. It really depends on the location of the room and the distance to the central air conditioning unit.

Good points

1. Wide selection of food for breakfast.

2. Rooms have at least an LCD TV

3. There is a Chinese restaurant in the hotel that is quiet, and quite tasty. However price a little on the high side. Thus empty.

4. All Rooms are spacious. No real difference between deluxe, superior, grand room, etc...

Overall doesn't really feel like a 4* hotel, more like a 3*. Service is okay, food above average, accommodations adequate, price comparable. With paying a little more, there are several new hotels that are way better than this hotel.
