I'd decided not to visit but a Thai tour guide I met at breakfast said it was a must-see.

Spent 20 minutes there, and another 15 minutes sitting on the veranda watching the school kids wandering by. Really wished there was more information available on this historically very important building. The photographs on the walls are intersting but there is zero information available. I really should have read up more on the history before going there.

Cost is 5, 000.

The Istana is a bit run down with a few roadside stall selling soveniours . Many old photos of the Sultan's family are shown . Replica costumes of the Sultan are avaliabe for a small rental fee and you can be photograh together with your female partner dressed as the Sultanate too
