“An easy way to spend 15 minutes”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

We had an afternoon in Medan and wanted to see the sites. There were few to chose from. The Istana Maimun was one of these. We paid 10 000 rupiah each to get in. There were only two rooms to see! It was quite sparse and definitely over priced for what it was. The walk from the hotel to here was almost more interesting.

“Could have been better”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

Back in its glorious days, I think this palace (istana) was a grandeur complex decorated in bright yellow color. However, the lack of maintenance from the family / local government has deteriorated the complex.

“It was alright.”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Well, we had a walk outside. Breezy but dirty. The split cannon attraction 2 minutes away from the main entrance requires an unofficial 2000 rupiah entry fee. The local attraction bouncer will utter the same words from the info board available outside. Smart man.

“Kesultanan Deli's heritage”

Liked the calm and peaceful atmosphere inside the palace. Entrance is free but you will be asked to donate.
Disliked the papparapzi hawkers at the parking lot. They never take no for answer.
