Be careful to touch the stuff in this house because it is historical. very unique building and the government should more pay attention for this preservation building or mansion as everybody said.

I love to visit a museum or gallery and Tjong A Fie's Mansion is one of the best. It's really authentic and showing of the great Tjong A Fie's. It's even much better than Istana Maimoon which nearby from the Mansion.

Had a good English speaking guide here, who didnt just stick to the guide banter but told us many little stories about the family and Medan history. Lovely house in the middle of a big noisy city.

It is hard to believe that Medan has a treasure like Tjong A Fie's Mansion. I am glad that I went there. Visitors will get a glimpse of the riches that Medan's economical and political elite possessed in the past.
It is reminded me a lot of one Peranakan museum I once visited in Singapore. Just a little bit less maintained but still good enough.
Since Medan is not blessed with many interesting tourists sites this is a must-see to me. Entrance fee I believe was 30,000 IDR. Money well spent. Included in the entrance fee is a guide that speaks both English and Indonesian. The explanations given were a bit robotic but I was grateful to get information on the culture and the family that built the house. Descendents apparently still live in one to the wings.
It would be great if they had a small cafe in the garden for some refreshments.
