We stayed two nights in a double room and payed a total of RM573.86 through expedia.
The reception looks cool, clean, modern and had some nice character with an old man sitting in a corner playing an exotic instrument. The staff were very attentive and as we arrived they invited us to a tasty local hot drink (I think it is called Jamu) made with ginger, egg and honey.
The hotel location is in an area surrounded by other hotels of the same level. There are some local restaurants around and we recommend Lae Lae (5 minute walk) for an authentic indonesian sea food experience (why not trying to eat with your hand like the locals?)
Fort Rotterdam is within walking distance (maybe 15min max)
Now the rooms. These look really nice but the AC is quite noisy. We got a room with a very noisy AC and asked for another one and were moved to a different floor. The rooms also smell a little bit of tobacco. Beds were comfy and TV signal worked fine in one room but worse in the other.
Breakfast was superb and definitely one of the highlights of the hotel. I loved the Coto Makassar soup. Delicious.
The spa area and jacuzzi was quite mediocre. The jacuzzi has a great size and the temperature is good but, in general it felt like it could have been cleaner, especially the floor mat. The receptionist of the Spa gave me bathing shorts the two times I went and both times these smelled very musty so I ended up using my own ones. The atmosphere of the Spa could be better in general with a better lighting system. My girlfriend also used the female area of the spa and it was not relaxing for her at all as one of the members of staff sat watching a loud tv in the main spa area where the jacuzzi was!! Again, the bathing suit she was offered was completely musty and so she used her own. The hotel management really need to visit a proper hotel spa to see that a proper spa should be spotlessly clean and a peaceful area in which to relax....
Overall it was not a bad experience however, considering the faults with the rooms and the 2 star spa, it is way over priced. We would not stay again at that price and would not recommend using the spa at all.
