“Indonesian charm”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, lush garden setting. Good vibes. Place needs fixing up, in the same manner as many other Indonesian places do. Nothing to really bother about if you prefer the authentic over an impersonal big flashy hotel. We enjoyed our stay from start to end, regardless of the run down bathroom and the noisy AC. Restaurant on ship: nice feature and good to catch some wind + city views.

Room Tip: Don't go for standard room, too dark.

Wonderful cottages that extend out over the ocean (ocean view rooms). Beautiful hotel, rooms and grounds. Good service. Free internet, but only in the open air lobby, which is a problem in that the area has mosquitoes. The room bathrooms are not up to the other hotel standards although adaquate. The large buffet breakfast is very nice althought heavily slanted toward Indonesian and Asian travelers. But a nice selection of fruit and eggs cooked to order means you will not go hungry. If you like asian breakfasts, it is a feast. A/C units appear to be undersized for the west facing ocean view rooms but I still recommend getting the ocean view room. The view from your private patio is very nice.

Due to late arrival of our flight we checked in at 0300. Next morning due to jetlag we did not make breakfast.
Upon asking if there was anything available as breakfast staff immediately told us there was, but we would have to pay separately for that. So for 2 toast, butter and marmelade we had to pay Rp. 100.000. This turned out to be characteristic for the overall atmosphere.
In the evening we sat on the (nice) beachside terrace and took 2 Bintang beers. Unfortunately we had not consulted the pricelist, because for these 2 beers they charged Rp. 160.000 (€12)!. During the rest of our 3 week trip we never paid more than 40.000.
The cottage room did have a nice view, but it was quite obvious not one Rupia had been spent on maintenance of the room and especially the bathroom in the last 30 years or so.
The price of €80 per night is then far too high. Wonder where all this money is going.

The setup of the Pantai Gapura is great: a quiet place with cottages directly on the seaside, amidst of a noisy and busy city. The rooms feel a bit outdated and so does the rest of the place. Great service, which has its price here (the most expensive spring rolls we had in Indonesia). A good start for our trip through Sulawesi.

Room Tip: Choose a seaside cottage and never take a room in the main building.

This was the first hotel we stayed in on Sulawesi. We had a room next to the garden and far from the restaurant. Our room was quiet and clean. The property was also clean and the breakfast was good. The hotel is located in a nice place, close to fort Rotterdam.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far from the restaurant because of karaoke in the evening.

Our group had to book late since we were originally weren't going to overnight in Makassar. We did not have over water rooms, but in the two story main building. The rooms were atrocious. Ours was the worst. The bathroom looked like it should have crime scene tape blocking it off. Thank God we were only there for a short stay. Heavy mosquitoes. Food at the boat-restaurant was fine.

we stayed in this hotel one night at the end of our Toraja trip.
We had a nice room located on the seafront but it was very noisy because we could hear the neigbours as if they were in the room (no insonorisation). On top of this, the hotel put a loud music in its restaurant in thre evening...They close the pool at 6pm so you cannot swim after a daytrip.
Breakast is ok but they are hardly nodoby in this place...
