We had 10 wonderful days that passed far too quickly. The staff was great, they knew who we were and provided personalized service from the time we stepped out of the car and onto the pier at BinTan. Thanks especially to "YOGI" and "FITRA" and all the others on the island. Every face was a friendly smile and greeting. Hope some of us can see you during Chinese New Year. Everyone stay well and happy. Grandpa and Grandma

We had picked Nikoi Island because after researching on TripAdvisor, we were impressed that this small Island resort was ranked higher than Banyan Tree, Bintan. After experiencing Nikoi Island for ourselves we found the Island's natural surroundings to be as some reviews had said, ' Paradise!!!', however, the service provided well fell short of our expectations. The people there were friendly, HOWEVER, it was painfully obvious they lacked professional training required to deliver service of a luxury resort.

GETTING THERE: The duration of the trip was, 55 min jet boat ride from Sing-Bintan, then almost an hour in the car to the Nikoi boat jetty, we had to endure another 45 mins on a small boat with no canopy. The trip getting there and coming back may be a bit tiring for families with small children, as you may encounter strong cross currents between the Islands as we had experienced.

ARRIVAL: After arriving on the Island we were greeted by about 6 Nikoi representatives, later we found that only a handful spoke English well. During our arrival registration at the Bar, there were no introduction of what and where we can go on the Island. The only map we saw was at dinner time on a chalk board near the dining bar. Better orientation would have made our stay there much more productive and enjoyable.

ACCOMMODATIONS: The Villa's were beautifully exotically designed, however, there was no door in the master-bedroom. Luckily while we were staying there, it was mostly breezy and partially cloudy, and yet it was at times unbearably hot, with only 1 fan on top of each bed.
If you are not a bug person, then I would suggest you think twice about Nikoi Island. The Villas are open on the top sides of the walls near the roof, so that all sorts of ' friendly' bugs do come in to visit at odd hours of the day.

MEALS: We had both teenagers and young children in our family. Both adult and children meals were quite well prepared but the portions were at times way too small.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT: Consists of the same cartoons and movies for young kids. There is not much for teenagers to do though so I would suggest you bring your own games etc. to keep your teenagers busy during the evenings.

All-in-all, there is nothing you can complain about the surroundings of Nikoi Island. It has beautiful white sand beaches and its new pool area is beautiful and a must. However, its service provided does need improved professional training and better organization in order for this Island resort to rank above Banyan Tree.

Nikoi Island is really heaven on Earth! From Singapore, we took the ferry to Bintan. From Bintan, a driver hired by Nikoi Island picked us up and drove us to the boat that would take us to Nikoi Island. The car ride to Nikoi made us all a little car sick b/c the drivers drive extremely fast! That is, however, the only complaint I have about the trip and it was just 45 minutes. Once we arrived at the boat, the boat ride was 30 minutes. Because Nikoi Island imports everything from the mainland, the boat was loaded with food as well as workers. As we approached the island, I knew it was going to be beautiful but I had no idea just HOW beautiful! We took our kids and also accompanied another family with 3 small children. Our children are ages 4 and 5 and theirs were 7, 5 and 1 year. The crew from the island helped us off the boat, our luggage was taken off and we were guided to the bar for a cold towel and great drink. There, we met the much talked about "Yogi" and for good reason, I must say! He is a character and so wonderful with kids. Our room was shortly ready after drinks at the bar and I cannot explain the sheer beauty of the place! Unbelievable! The bottom portion of the villa included a covered porch with a sink, couch, 2 chairs and a bed/swing. Not to mention, there was a bunk room, too. My kids are quite young and I was afraid they would wake up in the middle of the night and go exploring so we put them upstairs with us. We rented a one bedroom cabin and by the way, this was plenty big enough for 4 of us! Climbing the stairs to the second floor, we weren't prepared for what we saw: utter beauty, again! The villas are only 2 years old and they are amazing. Our king size bed sat in the middle and was draped with mosquito netting. The boys slept in the daybeds that were built in right in front of our bed. They were perfect. And, I was a little concerned that being there was no A/C, we would get hot at night. Not a problem! There was constant breeze from the ocean coming through the villa 24/7. One word of caution: when booking, ask about the season and the direction of the wind during the time of year you want to go. Our cabins were breezy all the time. The cabins on the other side by the pool weren't and after talking to Yogi he explained that the direction of the wind during the summer was perfect for the cabins in which we stayed. The meals: again, where do I begin! Fantastic. The service was wonderful and the food spectacular. Its better than any food I've had in Singapore. They serve the kids first and then the adults which is nice. Once the kids got done eating, they played in the sand or watched a movie in the villa next door set up for kids. No need for shoes, either! Bring one pair and that's it. Everything is sand from the beach to the dining area. The pool was also very pretty and included a small pool for smaller kids and a bar. The view from the pool was gorgeous. Bring a great camera b/c the photo ops are out of this world. The kids went kayaking one day as I collected sea shells and coral on the beach. They will even arrange diving/snorkeling and windsurfing lessons for you. We only stayed 3 days which wasn't long enough! Make sure to book in advance! Also, if you have kids, request to have a bonfire and treasure hunt. As we were getting ready to leave, Yogi presented the children with presents and my oldest son cried. He didn't want to leave and said he wanted to stay with Yogi! We were all sad we had to go but are so glad we found this treasure. Whether you're a couple or family, this is a great place! For couples, they had a separate dining area. Also, I should mention that each villa has a small sheltered massage bed. We weren't able to maximize this feature being that we brought our children but we will return to Nikoi! Another recommendation, bring snack foods you and your children enjoy to munch on between meals. Next time, we will bring wine (check the Indonesian allotments for alcohol per person), cheese and crackers along with grapes and other fruit. Every house has a cooler on the first floor and ice is provided upon request. The ants do get into your things so make sure to keep all your food products properly sealed and tight! Have fun, relax and tell Yogi hello!

My wife and I spent 5 perfect nights on Nikoi as our Honeymoon. Everything about the island was perfect for rest and relaxation; from the friendly and always keen to please staff to the natural sea breeze air conditioning.

The staff never ceased to amaze us with their willingness to go the extra mile.

The food was just out of this world too. We were expecting something nice but basic, however, what we got was always a taste sensation and plenty of it. In fact, on the first night we arrived, the steak that was served was in the top 5 steaks that I've eaten in my life!!! High praise from a guy that loves steak!

The ability to use all of the water sport equipment was also great and meant that we stayed active too...to burn off all the good food we were eating!!!!

Our only slight improvement would be to raise the price of the food package slightly but include local beers and spirits. Drinking on the island turned into a very expensive exercise and on a tight budget it was a real consideration for us. We stretched ourselves so that we could afford to make it to the island, but to relax and just not worry about the price of the drinks would have just lifted that one last weight off our shoulders.

However, we would wholeheartedly recommend this magical island to anyone who wants to relax with the one(s) they love and be treated like a king/queen. The island never seemed busy and always felt like our own little private piece of heaven.

Thanks Nikio you were the best...

I had really high expectations of the trip as I cancelled my reservation at one of the other bigger Bintan resorts and changed my flight date after reading the reviews posted here. The travelling to the island itself was a breeze with a person guiding you through the VIP area and customs at the Bintan resort terminal, with seamless connection via land transport to the jetty where a boat awaited to take us to Nikoi. The calm, relaxed and laidback atmosphere (i call it barefoot luxury) hits you as soon as you step off the boat onto a blazing white strip of sandy beach and head up to the bar / reception. The staff are amazingly warm and friendly but not intrusive. They will ask you for the timing of your meals so the meals can be prepared and served hot to you in the dining pavilion which had a sandy floor so you could wiggle your toes in the fine sand whilst having your meal and watching the wind lazily blow the palm fronds. This is a place where you hardly see anyone despite the island being fully booked, but if you are ever in need of conversation, a quick trip to Yogi's bar should do it. This means no encountering any waits anywhere or people who "book" the deckchairs with best views using their beach towels, because at most times, you have the beach / pool to yourself. We had a great time kayaking around the island and given a quick crash course in sailing a catamaran by the boathouse staff, all at no extra charge, unlike other resorts who charge mind-boggling prices for their watersports. Nikoi doesn't have any motorized sports though, I suppose to maintain the relaxed atmosphere. Impressive was their service too and the way the staff went out of their way to help us. My boyfriend's sandals gave out and they sent someone to look for a staff with the same size as his and lent him a pair for the duration of our stay. The beach hut itself is simple but not bare, and importantly, I didn't find any fault with their bathrooms, which were so tastefully decorated. I would recommend the massage too, and time it around 5pm because you can watch the sunset whilst getting an aromatherapy massage in the downstairs gazebo of your beach hut which faces the sea. I think Huts 1-6 would get the sunset view directly. The food was really good and bordered on amazing considering that this is an island that has to get supplies from the mainland and such. All our meals were really good, perhaps of the freshness and the staff took into consideration our requests for extra helpings, to add seafood to our meal, and to serve our breakfast in our beach hut, and we weren't charged extra for any of it either. I had half a mind not to post a review because I definitely want to come back again, and I don't want it to get too popular with people. But this is place really blew me away on all levels.

Wow - this place is so impressive. White beach sand, blue water and every luxury you need on this small island so close to Singapore, yet so far from the madding crowd.
We had a wonderful family holiday here because of the beautiful atmosphere and architecture created by the owners including Peter and Andrew, who we were lucky enough to meet while there.
The open two storey beac h bungalows are delightful - the last of 15 are nearly finished and they all have a panoramic outlook over the sea. It was really fun at night with no doors, just stylish tiimber all aorund us and a mosquito net over our beds that we didn't really need. It's fun walking through the tropical jungle to the two pools only 5 mins away, then swimming and longing on the sunbeds overlooking more glorious ocean.
The dining rooms are also open plan and beautiful with sandy floors and a long timber table that happy guests enjoy the yummy meals at.
And the local staff who attend to your every need are beautiful gentle people. And Yogi the barman made us all laugh - try one of his delicious Yogi-coladas at the thatched beach bar.
Nikoi is really perfect and a great way to reinvigorate the soul with nature all around you.
The owners have done a great job helping people remember how life is really meant to be. We would love to return.

We've been looking for a perfect island escape near Singapore for years and have finally found this white sandy paradise just off Bintan Island, only an hour's ferry from Singapore.

We'll never forget our arrival at sunset...on a small boat across calm seas and landing right on the beach sand in front of the laid back "check-in" - the thatched beach bar attended by Nikoi's resident character Yogi.

The white sand and palm trees are perfect, and the two storey cottages on the beach are just remarkable open-plan timber architecture, thanks to Peter, one of the owners who quietly observes and listens to everything.

There are no windows and doors in the cottages, and people used to security quickly loosen up and re-discover the pure pleasure of being carefree in perfect safety. Nikoi's website says you don't need air-con here and it's true - the cooling ocean breezes and the fan inside your netted bed are a much better, natural, back to basics alternative.

And the pure pleasure of dining barefoot with sand floors in a stylish thatched open room is something we'll long remember.

The prices are very reasonable here on Nikoi - we were impressed with the fresh and filling local produce including seafood offered for lunch and evening meals.

This is nature at its best, combined with comfort, making this a perfect break for us.
Nikoi Island is still much of a secret, but by the glowing Tripadvisor reviews already, it will be widely known about soon. Thanks Nikoi - we loved it.
