“Great Getaway from the city lifestyle.”
Reviewed February 8, 2011

Went for 4days 3 nights trip to the resort. Upon arrival the setting of the lobby and surrounding looks simple and basic.. Staff were helpful and friendly.
Managed to check in after 1 hours of waiting due to early arrival.. Went to room and amazed to find room so well maintained and cosy... everything in the room is so up to standards except for power failure once a day for 5 minutes..
Food were nice and cheap.. seafood were fresh and taste great...
Activity not much except for sea sports... spa were good though.. went for massage 2 days straight.. price reasonable...
Sad that theres no real beach and tide were low half the time...
Overall satisfactory and experience were good... will return again in future.. :)

The hotel is a bit far away from the ferry terminal (1:30H of rough road in a very old bus) and there is pretty much nothing around. The place is big, there are a lot of rooms. The rooms are OK, but the bathroom are a bit rough and smelly, yet clean.

The main problem we found was that there is no real beach, the water come all the way up to some walls. One you go in the water, it's muddy with some sea weed and sharp rocks here and there (we did get some small cuts). At low tide the water goes all the way out (about 800m) and the scenery become a lot less peaceful.

It's somehow quiet, expert near the pools (which are near the rooms) so you can't sleep too late. In the evening they have some very loud outdoor karaoke (not that great singers down there).

Food is simple and somehow fairly limited in choices so you can get bored very quickly, and they love to put sugar in everything.

Bottom line, you can pay just a bit more and stay in one of the hotel in bintan resorts where you have very nice sandy beach, variety in food, less time in transports and more activities.

1. This hotel is far from any ferry terminal. It takes abt an hour to reach the nearest ferry terminal ( Tanjung Pinang ferry terminal) A really good place to escape the city life. Nice scenery almost all around.

2. No shopping area apart from the hotel's shops that might rip you off.

3. Almost everything from spa to drinks is in Singapore Dollars.

4. Spa was worth it! You will not want it to end!!!! Reasonable pricing.

5. Rooms are well maintained. If you suffer frm leg problem or whatsoever pls let them knw so they can accommodate to your needs. One of the family room is located at top of a hill & you need to climb dozens of steps.

5. Service was superb. As long as you don't ask them anything abt the wifi. May b they are not familiar w it.

6. The beach is pretty & that's abt
it. You can't really swim there cos when we there it was low tide most
of the time.

7. Beach activities are packaged. I think the package starts from SGD
40, & will last for abt 45mins to an hour. Very good experience. Will betta if you speak Malay or Indonesia. If there's no one next you can try your luck & ask if you extend the timing for the rides.

8. Food was great. We had BBQ as part of our package. It wad gd and they were generous with the food.

9. PLS EXPLORE the surroundings and ask ard questions. We didn't
knw that we cld get discount if we book some of the spa services one day in advance. During low tide any kind sea sports are not allowed. So we wasted one whole afternoon.

ANIMAL LOVERS pls do NOT visit their so called "farm". It will only ruin your mood.

- Location wise it is quite far, it was isolated from other resorts. So it is quiet here and very peaceful.
- First night I stayed in the beach view room, the room is good but it needs some renovation. The bathroom doesnt have any tub only hot & cold shower. On my 2nd night I stayed in the pool view the room, it is quite cozy with bathtub.
- The food is average but you must expect that it is quite spicy.
- I highly recommend that you try the SPA, I enjoy it so much.
- Water sports - if you're a swimmer or an experienced diver, I dont think you will have a problem. Because they dont have proper briefing especially to those who are goin for snorkeling. They also dont have first aid kit in their boat. So you must be careful and ready. The life jackets needs some replacements some are in not good condition.
- The staff are friendly and helpful.
- Overall it is a value for money.

To review this resort is somewhat uneasy because of the plus and minuses, and these may appeal to some and not others. While one man's meat is another poison, I shall try to write what I saw and leave it open to whether it's a positive or negative trait.

1. Resort location - away from the Terminal (1 hour plus) either via Bintan or Tanjung Pinang. While the website says it is near Cabana and Yasin Bungalows, please do not be mislead, they are quite far apart and a car ride is definitely needed.

2. This beach resort has no beach or even if it has, the "beach"is an unswimable sludge beach with cloudy murky waters. It is not the blue sea waters you see in the photos as advertised nor the white sandy beaches. To get to those beaches, you have to pay $45-$80 for a short few hours which is actually a boat ride away. The coastal area binding the resort is rocky and unsuitable for swimming. The only swimming areas are a small swimming pool (pond) next to the lobby or an overcrowding swimming pool off the cafeteria.

3. The seasports activities are quite extensive but the only ones worthy of mention if the kite surfing. The others can give it a miss.

4. Snorkeling is $45-$80 over at an offshore lsland for 3 hours inclusive of boat travel. Pass.

5. Foodwise - Sun Moon Restaurant is so so with expensive prices, the hotel's cafeteria is ok but selection is mild. Breakfast was good though.

6. This is not a romantizing resort. It is a teenager/school kids get together place where you have children screaming and young people wailing with fun. Bring your girlfriend there for a romantic trip and she will hate you for life.

7. No night activities except for a 'free' karaoke which is more of a noise pollutant for the spa next to it and the immediate resort guests staying in blocks next to it.

8. Service was excellent. The crew was a delight. As with Indonesian resorts, this is something so sparkling and top notch.

9. They offer WI-FI but when the password fails to connect, they do not help at all. They keep saying the password is correct even when we did a login in front of the reception staff. There were no follow up actions, just a "too bad" look.

I stayed in Bintan Agro for 2D1N. Overall, the stay was quite comfortable. However the rooms need to be re-furbished a bit because my room actually had the slot for which we insert the room card spoilt and it kept dropping. It was not replaced. The beds were quite comfortable and room was spacious. I was given a room facing the sea and the swimming pool, it was an extremely picturesque view. Very nice that a balcony was provided for every room.

Service needs to be improved as some of the resort's staff were lacking in their communication skills as they didn't really understand English. Food wise, I wouldn't say there was a large variety, though the seafood is really cheap and fresh. Service staff were courteous and attended to our every need.

I didn't really try out much of the water sports, except for kayaking. Again, the staff were courteous and helpful, enjoyed it thoroughly. There were also several in house entertainment provided, though I'm not sure if there's internet service.

I stayed for 5 days in the resort during the Idul Fitri holidays. The resort was quite packed and there were locals playing with fireworks, which seems to be the trend as I noticed vendors selling tiny fireworks/crackers on the street of the city on the day I arrived.

Service was excellent despite the crowd, I have to commend Pak Ali the main cook of Sun Moon restaurant where I had most of my meals. Its a pity I went alone, because there's only so much the stomach can take in 1 meal, but I just love everything in Sun Moon.

And then I also went on several optional tours such as the Mapur Island Tour and visited a temple with 500 lohan statues, very amazing place. Mapur Island tour was especially exciting, I never thought I could see waters like Maldives so near Singapore.

The sister resort Cabana also has a nice beach and a newly opened beach bar. That's where I hang out too. Other than that, some visits to the spa for foot reflexiology and back massage was always relaxing.
