“Away from the hustle and bustle”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

My friend and I decided on a little getaway over a long weekend. From reading the reviews we had a certain expectations in mind about the resort so certain things didn't come too much of a shock.

We started off our journey with a pleasant ride on Bintan resort ferry. Then it was a 1hr slightly bumpy ride on a old-ish bus to the resort, but we were the only ones on the bus so space wasn't an issue.

Upon arrival at the resort we checked into our room which was spacious and clean, albeit looking a bit worn down. The view from the room was spectacular and would've been perfect for watching the sunrise (if the weather wasn't so cloudy in the mornings when we were there). We started looking for activities to do and for a 3D2N trip there was a decent amount.

We spent the rest of the day hanging out at the beach and decided to have dinner at the Sun Moon restaurant as the Night Tour had been fully booked that night. We were very impressed with the food at Sunmoon restaurant - the seafood was fresh and portion sizes were good. We ended up sharing 1 medium sized crab (you get to pick your own crab), butter oatmeal squid and a plate of vegetables, which left us feeling absolutely stuffed and only cost about $25sgd altogether!

The buffet breakfast was also really good - had a good mix of indonesian and western food which seemed to change slightly on a daily basis. We decided on an island tour to White Sands beach for that afternoon. It was meant to be a 1hr round trip but we followed some people who were going snorkeling so it ended up more like a 2-3hr round trip. Met the friendly local guy (Sylvester) on the island and had a coconut (about $3sgd) and chatted with him. Spent the rest of the time swimming/suntanning around the island. If you walk to the other side of the island, there's plenty of fish to be seen swimming amongst the rocks and seaweed (bring goggles) and the water is also calmer.

We then went on the Night Tour after we got back - basically its a trip to a food street and also a supermarket for about $12sgd per person. The food street was fantastic - local food at its best and was not touristy at all. I'd recommend the ayam penyet and this goreng pisang dessert (deep fried sliced bananas drizzled with condensed milk, chocolate sauce with grated cheese on top). They were superb. Those, along with the char kway teow (fried noodles), satay, bandung (rose syrup drink) only cost us less than $10 sgd altogether! The supermarket was quite unremarkable and none of us really bought anything - perhaps the resort could choose an alternative location?

The final morning was spent at the Oceanic Spa where we indulged in a 2.5hr spa treatment. There's a discount if you have an advanced booking and they were kind enough to allow me to have a longer massage instead of a body scrub.

Overall, we felt that the length of time there was just right. There are other water related activities that you can do but we had a good mix of what was on offer. The main downside was that it was far from both the ferry terminal and town (a good 1hr ride) but that makes the resort a bit more isolated and peaceful from the rest of Bintan :)

Cons:
- It is more than an hour's drive away from the Tanjung Pinang ferry terminal, and quite a distance from the town area. So if you're looking to do lots of shopping, this resort isn't ideal, location speaking.
- The resort seems a little old, although comfortable enough.
- There could be more activities provided at the resort, ie. parasailing isn't available!

Pros:
- It is situated right at the White Sands beach itself! From the balcony of the room we were in (The Superior Room) we had a fantastic view of the sunrise.
- The range of food provided for the meals aren't that wide, but the quality is exquisite! And the dinner is served at the restaurant right at the end of the resort, with tables overlooking the moonlit ocean. The fries we ordered from room service were quite simply the best-tasting fries we've ever had (although they were a little cold when they got to our room).
- The activities provided are very affordable! And the massage is great too!
- What impressed me the most was the quality of service; staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. They literally knew what we wanted to ask even before we said anything!!! Everyone from the front-desk, to the customer relations officers, to the waiters/waitresses and the massage therapists... they were absolute top-notch. This, coming from someone with years of experience in customer service. :)

This place is perfect for a couple of nights' quick beach getaway, I feel. Because it's far away from town, it's peaceful and beautiful. Ideal for city folk like me who wants a change of pace and environment.

Room Tip: Pick a room with a balcony overlooking the ocean, get up early, and watch the sunrise. At low tide...

I went to bintan on september 7, 2013. I do not like to mislead people who want to have a holiday full of fun and frolic. For them, the place would seem to be bore. But, for a peaceful getaway from all the hubhub, this place is just great.

I will first start with pros.
1. Really a peaceful place, if one wants to get away from the day to day hectic life.
2. Very very friendly staff
3. Food was good. Lots of varieties to choose from.
4. Excellent buffet breakfast with such a lot of options.
5. Good breeze, the beach is an excellent place for relaxing and idling or having a massage.
6. The ride to mangrove tour will be fun if you go as a group.
7. Really excellent room service and very friendly people.

Cons:
1. There are very few activities and they are costly by asian standards.
2. The activities like mangrove tour, banana boat, city tour etc, must have a minimum of 4 to 6 people. So, for couples who want various activities, there is not much.
3. The cycling activity is restricted within the resort, which is not very big. If the management allows cycling outside, it will be very good.
4. There are activities like snorkelling, but price is costlier, even by Singapore standards.
5. Resort is a solid one hour ride from bintan terminal. But, that's okay, since the total journey from Singapore is just 2 to 2.5 hours.

My Experience:
I really really enjoyed the place very much. Its very peaceful and i forgot the world around me. I have never met such very friendly staff. Really, they are gems. I will surely go there again, just for the sake of idling away my time on the beach, enjoying the sunrise, the sunset, the high tide, the low tides, the breeze.... Simply awesome. I love it.

So, My final conclusion. If you want a lot of activities, come as a group, be prepared to spend more, but, apart from city tour, you cannot leave the resort on your own.
But if you want peace and calm, there is no better place than bintan agro beach resort

Had a good time in the White Sand Beach, resort stay was relaxing. Room was up to standards, and breakfast was also good. Not many activities (no Jet Ski and ATV) but good for a short stay.
Attraction was the floating Massage and also the SPA..

We had a peaceful and relaxing stay here. Amenities are neat and mediocre. Place is really windy and relaxing. Atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was okay. The rooms are clean and basic. We are a couple who decided to get away from the city for a weekend. It served its purpose. Bintan is not a fantastic place to visit but we enjoyed our stay here. Good for a short trip. The only downside is the long drive from the ferry terminal.

Went with my cycling group to Bintan for cycling and stayed here for 1 night. As everyone has mentioned, the resort is run down and badly in need of maintenance. The plus factors are that is an idyllic and breezy place and if u're just here to chill it's ok. I thought the beach was beautiful. Breakfast was disappointing and the food in general was just average. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Stayed here with my older children for a few days, whilst visiting Singapore. The staff were very welcoming, polite and we had a lovely suite, spacious, clean and good value for money. This is the perfect location for a few days relaxation. Children were disappointed that we couldn't book diving lessons, or no assistance provided to do so with neighbouring resorts. Fantastic for a peaceful stay but limited transport provided to access local areas or markets. Avoid the bike ride! enjoyed the mangrove tour, staff very helpful. Two restaurants, good choice of food but found service variable. Beautiful sunrise and spa treats. We really enjoyed our stay and the calm, pretty surroundings. Maria and boys
