“Great Venue for Corporate Events/Holiday”
Reviewed June 18, 2011

Stay: 13 - 16 June 2011
Room Type: 90 rooms of various configurations
Event: This was for a corporate event for 214 persons (all ages).

Hotel Liason:
All reservations and liason were made direct with the hotel.
The staff whom we liased (Mr Ivan) with was always very prompt in handling all our enquiries and needs. He was always very patient and sincere in attending to our requirements for the event.

Getting to hotel from the ferry terminal Bandar Bentan Telani (BBT) :
From the terminal, it is an hour's ride by bus/car to the resort that is situated on the east coast of Bintan Island.

Upon Arrival :
Welcome drinks (chilled watermelon juice) were served - very refreshing!
Was a pity that soursop was out of the season at this time - otherwise the soursop drink would have been even better!

Front Desk:
Check in and out very efficient and staff were very accomodating and friendly - they always had a smile on their faces. And spoke good English.

Asiana Restaurant:
Food was great! Breakfast Variety plentiful - included Indonesian and Chinese dishes.
There was freshly made roti-prata, 'you tiao' (fried dough fritters), 'muffins', omelettes, each day. To the delight of some, there was even fried rice, local stir-fried vegetables, beef, fish dishes in addition to the usual toast. The replenishment was prompt.

** Special bonus: the restaurant where breakfast is served (Asiana Restaurant) overlooks the beach and sea. So, to have breakfast and enjoy the sunrise, go early.
Sunrise was about 5:45-6am. Breakfast starts at 6:30am.

Sun-Moon Restaurant:
Our lunches were at this restaurant. It was a 5 minute walk from the lobby. This restaurant is built on the water (like a 'kelong'). Food was delicious with lots of local seafood. View and sea breeze topped up the entire experience!

Level of Spicyness: I suppose the locals have a higher tolerance to spicyness, so we had to ask for non-spicy menu to accomodate the children.

Dinner on the beach:
One dinner was on the beach - it was a barbeque dinner. The experience was fun and different.

The rooms varied in sizes and configuration. But almost all rooms had a sea/beach view. Some had balconies. Others - jacuzzis. Family rooms are huge and can accomodate 3 adults comfortably and still be able to do cart-wheels in it. Rooms were clean and toilets were also well kept.

Room amenities:
Mini fridge
Tea/Coffee making facilities
Aircons were split units.
TV - cable TV available with many Singapore channels.

Resort Amenities:
Pool - big pool (very clean for a pool that's next to a beach) near Asiana Restaurant. Smaller pool next to lobby.
Sea Sports - a wide variety of sea sports available including banana boat, big mable, grandstand, bandwagon, kayaking, snorkelling, kite surfing, fishing, etc.

Beach - had plenty of space for football, volleyball, fisbee.
Basketball court, Billiard Table, Table soccer.
Spa - Oceanic Spa
Mini-zoo: there is a mini zoo in the resort (chickens, rabbits, etc)

Convenience Store - had drinks, instant noodles, coffee, tea, snacks, local snacks, toiletries, simple medication, ice cream. All very resonably priced.
Gift store - handicraft and trinkets, Tshirts, beach wear.
(both open till 10pm)

Internet WiFi access:
There is free WiFi access from the lobby and from Asiana Restaurant.
There are also 2 computer terminals at the lobby that guests can use (but that is payable).

Function Rooms:
There are 3 function rooms (1 large 220pax) and 2 smaller ones (100pax). All situated next to each other with toilet facilities nearby. The plus is that the function rooms are within 3 minutes walk from most of the rooms. Zeus 3 (the largest room) is sound-proofed. Proof that the sound proofing works? - we did not even hear the pouring rain when inside the room with doors closed.

Because of the switch from government electricity (limited), the resort had to switch back and forth to their own power generators, as a result there were several 10 second power-out intervals each day. But it did not disrupt any of our activities, though we had to turn on the airconditioners again after each outage.

On the whole, the resort is a great value-for-money getaway that has a bit of everything for everyone. The natural setting (nature) surrounding the resort does give one a sense of relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Bintan Agro is one of four resorts owned by the same owner. So if planning a stay/or for a corporate event, there are actually 3 other resorts to choose from.

Clinic : in case of emergency, there is a 24-hour clinic about 10 minutes-drive away (but thankfully we had no need for that during our stay).

At low-tide, the sea-bed is really rather flat and goes out for about 700 metres. Do bring walking shoes and a spade for some seabed walking and shell-picking/digging at low-tide. But DO NOT attempt to reach the little hut after the rocks - deep waters there.

Room Tip: Block 7 has sea view and balconies.

We stayed at the bintan agro beach cabana resort, which was about 15 min away by car from the main bintan agro resort. bad choice, discourged people from staying there, would be better off picking the main bintan agro resort. As most facilities is at bintan agro, so anything you wanna do, you have to arrange for a car (subject to resort's availability) to the main resort, quite inconvenient. restaurant at bintan agro, the sun moon, was not bad, price slighly reasonable. breakfast was ok. main gripe is the location being so far away fromt he ferry jetty. went for a island tour of white sand island, 15 min away from bintan agro by boat, for around US$16, no tour, its really just the transport there, for 1 hour before ferrying you back. would come back to bintan, but not to bintan agro cabana, maybe the bintan agro.

Agro beach resort was booked as a 2nd day getaway after the 1st day's stay at Nostalgia Yasin. After a night's stay of the "out in the wild" experience, its back to the more traditional air cond & TV watching form of accommodation.

Agro beach is located about 10mins walk away from Nostalgia and they're both sister resorts. During the checkin, we had a bit of a hassle as the counter staff insisted on us to pay them to pick up the return ferry tickets for us which we rejected. (However for those who do not know where to get their ferry tickets when they're back at the Jetty, then it would be a wise choice to just pay them that money.) It took quite a bit of arguing before they finally relented and we got our room keys to our room.

Room booked was the Jacuzzi suite. The location was good as it is just beside the hotel swimming pool and there is sea view from the balcony or from the side of the bed. Room is quite spacious with good air conditioning, 4 single sofa seats, lcd tv and king sized bed. The jacuzzi itself though, was a bit disappointing as it was a little small. The most it can fit 2 persons and it can still get a little cramped. We spent most of the time in the room watching TV, but there's also massage/spa and lots of other watersports available for people who are interested.

There are 2 restaurants in Agro Beach, one is located near the swimming pool, while the other one, Sun Moon restaurant is built further away from the pools and on top of the sea. If you've been to snorkeling trips during the day, then that's where Sun Moon restaurant is located at. Overall, food quality is acceptable though (i wished) pricing could have been lower.

Overall, Agro beach resort stay was enjoyable and a continuation of the getaway from city life. However, the position of the resort is abit out of the way for ppl who would like to travel to the towns to do their "local" shopping. I mean, wasting 2 hours of your Bintan trip on bus rides isn't very much worth it. But its up to the individual what is their final choice.

My husband happened to book this for our 1 yr anniversary inc spa package. Total disappointment. First the land transfer was particularly long in a cramped and old van. When we arrive no welcome drink, it had to be claimed. We had to change rooms two times. First bcos toilet had a smell (moth ball) and room dingy. Second room aircon was leaking badly. Third room was pretty acceptable. Bear in mind no lifts. Spa package was far from satisfactory. Bath tub had black sediments n we decided not to go in. My masseur was quite a young lady not thorough n not detailed in minor things. When we had to bathe again, we were not given any privacy. The two ladies were chatting over while cleaning. Privacy nil. Hospitality was non-existent as the other staff does not greet or thank u for coming when spa was over. Dinner by the pool with candlelight was another disappointment. Guess what, the table was quite near the pool u can almost feel the splash of water when someone jumps in. And Lo and behold this was not a romantic dinner as we had many other spectators in the pool swimming and making noise. Food was so so. Lunch not provided and there is only one restaurant. At night sat, we had to tolerate bad singing from our rooms as there was open air karaoke singing till 11 plus. Overall we couldn't wait to go home although it was just 2d1n. Few good things: very calm sea and noiseless flushing toilet bowl. Once bitten twice shy.

Thank you for your contribution on giving ideas of how we can improve our resort service in the future.

Our transport department had taken note for the issue that you raised. We are on the midst of renovating and upgrading all the facilities including rooms and transportation vehicles that we have in order to provide better service.

For the spa, we apologize for the uncomfortable bath tub. We have changed the water filter and water source so the water flows in the bath tub will be cleaner. The management will increase the number of trainings to improve our staff quality of service and also capabilities in handling guests.
As the extension of our Sunmoon Kelong Restaurant, we have chosen new location for candlelight dinner which is seated on a seaside balcony.

Booking & Journey there.
Right from booking to arrival at the bintan ferry terminal, we were treated with friendliness. the journey from bintan ferry terminal to the bintan spa villa is about an hour on a mini van. The ride was ok though each seat was pretty small [needs improvement]. The bus stopped at sister resort Cabana beach resort which looks really new. We also pass by Nostalgia Yasin bungalow which looks really new too. Upon arrival at Bintan agro beach resort, we were once again greeted by extremely friendly staff who gave us all the vouchers with the deals. 300 min worth of spa, 1 set lunch and 2nights accommodation with breakfast at the room with oceanic view.
The room was really quite impressive as we had no expectations. High ceiling, spacious toilets and even had a small balcony. A big sofa fades a Huge window perfect for sunrise in the comfort of your room w air conditioning. The bed was super king and it was really comfortable doe the both of us. The toilets was clean complete with a clean bath tub n clean towels. The room also comes w 4 bottles of complimentary water, fruits n drinks. Downside is there the tv is no LCD type but there is really not much complaints. We were impressed.
Around the resort
Outside our room (only 4 ocean view rooms ), we were literally in the ocean when the tide was high. Our room was far from the rest of the resort (5 min walk) in the middle of the ocean yet near the oceanic spa which offers great view while massage is clean and professional too. The resort area was quiet and hardly any one around- really quite a place for couples( which we see alot). During low tide ( about 4 hours after noon - depending on season I heard) the beach is literally your playground and it is beautiful.
Daily shuttles also available between all 3 sister resorts.
Food at Sun and Moon seafood restaurant was not too bad too with generous portions. I ordered a crab for dinner n it costs only around $3/ounce and the one I had was 2.5 ounce small crabs but really fresh. Breakfast was ok too. Simple but enough for a small eater like me- selections include prata, fresh eggs cook it your way, fried fritters, fresh fruits n salad w corn, cucumbers and tomatoes n fresh stir fry noodles. Sing dollars accepted as with any part of bintan and everything can b charged to room if you r not staying at yaslin bungalow.

Really did enjoy my time here having spa and massage all day long- wish I had more time in the sun though. Will definitely opt to come with Bintan Spa Villa again and try the sister resorts out.

Room Tip: Ask for Oceanic View room but top up $60/night.

Me & my wife went for a 3D2N stay. Resort is on the eastern side, abt 1hr drive from Ferry Ter. Stay in a decent enough superior room, & surprisingly equipped with a bathtub. Bed is kinda shaky and we din like the pillows too. Basic stuff like toiletries, coffees etc din get replenished enough. Be prepared for occasional power trips too. No free wifi/internet. Unless u are for spa or sea sports, resort din really have much else to offer, esp at nite. No nice view around. Hence, dun waste $$ on room with seaview or garden or hilltop. Breakfast spread is min. Itz fine if u like eggs, toast bread, with coffee/tea. The SunMoon restaurant serves some nice food at reasonable prices. Itz very quiet on wkday that u can almost hav the whole place to yourself. The crowd comes ovr the wkends. In summary, this resort provides everything to bare min. Not recommended.

We took up a 3d2n package for the blue ocean suite. It's a huge room with a really nice ocean view. Must try it. The food is not bad. But the walk from the room to the swimming pool is a bit too far.
