“Used To Be Much Better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2013

I went to Angsana Bintan many times. It used to be my favourite getaway because of the white sandy beach. However, the beach has been polluted since 2012. There are oil stains on the beach. I didn't see many fishes, seashells like last time. I also didn't swim in the sea like last time.

I was very disappointed that pollution has became a permanent problem and it was not caused by the monsoon season. I went in 2013 and the situation has remained the same as in 2012.

I also find that the service was not as good as before. The resort is too old and run down. The food does not taste good. Lastly, meals are charged in US Dollars. It is an expensive resort.

I only enjoyed the swimming pool and jacuzzi which I always did. This resort has very good shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap.

I will not recommend others to come to this resort unless the beach is no longer polluted.

my daughter and I stayed at the Angsana Bintan which is a resort-style hotel with a beautiful pool with waterfall fountains and only steps to the beach. the rooms are large, bright and airy and have large balconies which overlook the pool and beach and having had a bad experience at the Bintan Lagoon Resort hotel we were so pleased to arrive here. the service is impeccable and the staff friendly and all smiles. the buffet breakfast is one of the best with eggs 'to order' an abundance of everything and items were constantly replenished. the chips are delicious and so are the sandwiches. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if I were to go back to Bintan!! 10 out of 10!!

Room Tip: choose a room that overlooks the pool & sea as the views are spectacular with the setting sun!!

I stayed here for a weekend break with my girlfriend - the staff could not have been more helpful. An hour into our stay it became apparent that a 'reunion' was happening in the next room and the hosts had laid on booze and music - Awesome for them - we were a little tired. went to reception and explained we didn't want to complain and would be delighted to move to a quieter part of the hotel, albeit further away. A member of staff was at our room within minutes and we were in our new quieter room in moments. The beach was immaculate despite the warnings of tar and the jet skis were fantastic. As a bonus it was earth hour so we had a torch lit beach meal. The staff were fantastic. The games room table tennis tables could do with updating, that's literally the only thing I noticed - Little tip to make the most of your stay - grab a few extra beers at the airport - prices are similar to Singapore!

Room Tip: further away from reception - longer walk but likely to be quieter with better sea views

We went to Bintan over Chinese New Year which was probably the biggest mistake, because we paid over USD1300 for 3 nights (2 adults and 1 child in a cot) for a small room in an average resort. This may be better value if you can get a cheap weekend deal through Groupon - avoid CNY or other peak periods at all costs.

The highlights, quite a nice pool area with adults deep area and the two ends have shallow children's play area, a good spot on the beach with loungers and a bar/cafe, dining area was large and spacious, spa was nice also, good golf courses close by.

The lowlights, overpriced and dated resort, average service (though they did try), small rooms, oil on the beach from all the 100's of container ships coming into Singapore, watch out for the black oil/tar on your feet/legs, litter and debris on the beach.

If you're looking for a beach getaway from Singapore, forget it because you can't swim there or relax on the beach anyway. Suggest take the extra time and head north to Langkawi or Thailand.

Living in Singapore, I stayed for the long Easter weekend at the Angsana Bintan, with my family (including 2 daughters and my elderly parents who were visiting from the UK).
This hotel has the potential to provide an amazing experience: it has access to a beautiful white sand beach and turquoise water shared (which was cleaned from algae a couple of times a day while we were there) and has a bigger and better pool than the Banyan Tree that kids in particular enjoyed. We stayed in a suite, which was ideal for a family, at half the rate this would have costed us at the Banyan tree. Our daughters really enjoyed the kids club and the staff there were super friendly and gave small presents and beach toys for hire.
All of the above would make regular short trips from Singapore really appealing were it not for the terrible service in restaurants and around the beach and pool:
- Any decently trained F&B staff should know the importance of serving a meal to children promptly yet every single lunch or dinner we had (even 1 course) took at least 1,5 hour.
- One evening, after eating our first course and waiting for 45 minutes for someone to pick up our dirty plates, we had to cancel our mains after our daughters fell asleep at the table! This was after 1,5 hour of sitting around the table!!!
- Other terrible experiences included reserving a table for 6 a few hours in advance and arriving at the restaurant to see 3 tables, one of which was separated from the other by a pole! When we asked one of the staff to rearrange the tables, he said this was impossible as there wasn't enough room for staff to move between tables (which wasn't true) and finally did it in such a stroppy way that we all felt really unwelcome.
- We spent 3 nights and 4 days not leaving the hotel, either by the pool or on the beach. Out of those many hours only once did someone come to our long chair to ask us whether we wanted a drink. The rest of the time we had to go and try to find someone who would be willing to take an order. One day we were also flabbergasted to arrive at the beach and notice that our drinks from the previous day and an apple (that had been left behind by a previous customer) still hadn't been cleaned!
- On a couple of occasions the hotel ran out of towels to be handed by the pool.

I wouldn't recommend staying in this hotel to anyone with children or without the patience of a saint.

My wife and I have been to Angsana Bintan a few times, and we have not been disappointed. What's impressive about this place are the courteous staff, Singaporean-like cleanliness, golf course, beautiful ambience and generously equipped premises. It comes with a bonus of having Banyan Tree Bintan next door with its excellent restaurants at your beck-and-call if you want to dine with class. Not many mossies around as they fog the place regularly. Overall, a safe, clean and delightful place to chill out for a few days at the price of a ferry ride from Singapore.

After touring the east coast of Australia and living out of a suitcase we wanted somewhere to settle down for a few days and enjoy a complete rest. Breaking the journey home in Singapore, the island of Bintan is only an hours ferry ride away, and a complete getaway from the bustle of city life. The Angsana resort met all our rquirements - peace and tranquility set on a beautiful sandy coastline. The staff at the hotel could not have been more pleasant and attentive. All in all a good way to finish a perfect holiday.
