This is my third time staying in Angsana. The fact that it is a mere 50 minute ferry ride from Singapore which affords me some relaxation time is a plus. However, I was very surprised with the prices, it was probably due to high season (CNY). I was paying USD$350 per night for a deluxe twin room which was very normal, nothing special about it.
What baffled me was everything from food and drinks were quoted not in SGD but in USD.
And when you pay with your credit card, they will only charge you in Rupiah.
So they already make money off the exchange rate Rp10000 to USD1 which is easily Rp9600 to USD1, then you get another currency exchange hit when you get back to your home country to pay in your own currency from Rupiah to in my case SGD.
The food in the hotel is also very expensive for ordinary food.
I would have to reconsider returning since for the amount of money you spend here you can easily have a vacation similar to paradise which this isn't.

We stayed at the Angsana at the end of a trip around the Far East and Australia for a few days r & r before flying home. The staff were excellent and very helpful. Food was quite good and plentiful. Rooms were kept reasonably clean but I was very disappointed to find when walking in the forest behind the hotel numerous black bin bags full of rubbish. This would not have been so surprising if the hotel didn't make claims to being environmentally friendly. We were also disappointed to find the tar on the beach - the hotel staff were out most days cleaning it up but I still managed to get it on my shoes. There was also a permanent no swimming sign up on the beach (which was ignored by some people) but the tides and waves did look too strong to swim in. As the weather was quite rainy for most of our stay, there was not a lot to do - the free internet connection was very welcome!

Stayed in this hotel with my wife and my 6 year old daughter after booking a Deluxe Room.
Though the property is nice and clean it is not at all worth the price one pays for staying here.
We arrived by 12.45 pm and were not allotted a room till 2.30 pm despite making a request that we have a child with us.
The hotel was practically empty with hardly 10-5 rooms occupied.
Since we were vegetarians food was always an issue.
Pool was good and a lot of effort was being made to keep the beach clean. They charged my 6year old daughter for breakfast even though she hardly ate anything and was sitting with us on the table.
On our second day Filthy brownish water started coming from our taps and on making a complaint it was rectified but only for a few minutes.
Evening time their was a short circuit in our room.Lights went out for half an hour.
They did not have the courtesy to shift us to another room let alone an upgrade. My daughter developed rashes because of the filthy water and we had to bathe in another room and then come back to our room to change.
All they had to offer for this kind of pathetic service a half hearted apology and a 20% discount. This would not bring back our 2 days of terrible time.

Overall a terrible experience. We would not recommend this hotel to an any one planning a nice relaxed and fun filled holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms are a rip off.Even the deluxe rooms do not have a clear view of the sea.

We stayed 5 days at that hotel early January. We booked a two bedroom suite, the suite was nice with a good view on the beach but we had to call house keeping: the bathtub was dirty...

There is not much to do around but my husband was there for the golf and enjoyed it.
The food was not great and quite expensive for what it was. We are used to Phuket, its great food on the beach etc so we missed the possibility to eat in a small restaurant some nice authentic food. We went once outside the hotel in one of those areas where you have a couple of restaurants organised with a few shops around, not great... tourist trap.

The beach is nice but with lots of tarballs so our soles were black every day, not so pleasant.

What we did not like at all: at the end of our stay one of the glass lamp on the top of the dinning table happened to fall and broke in thousand pieces. We were fortunately out ( golf and massage) when it happened but we could have been badly hurt as we used to play cards below that lamp. We found broken glass virtually everywhere in the room. The hotel tried to charge us for that lamp one week after we were back home! We had nothing to do with that, I spotted that the bulb was missing and it's certainly the reason it fell. They did not replace it and the glass cover had not much to hold on to... That explains why when the house keeping guys came they replaced the 3 bulbs... Anyway, we regret the attitude towards that, never seen that in a hotel before.

Quite unexpected when we arrive our room, the room is very small, we have paid nearly $400 dollars for 1 night (and now it is selling at $300, what's wrong with us to book in advance)

The beach is full of tar, you wont notice until you have back your room to wash your leg, you will find it is difficult to wash away them.

It was a very bad experience when you want so spend some more for a birthday trip, end up you find a "no swimning" signs on the beach, yes you have been to a resort using beautiful sun & beach to attract you but you cannot swim on the beach at all!

Anyways the service here is good, everyone has a good smile on their faces, but those are not great enough for their price.

Dear JoeT,

Thank you for posting your comments of your recent stay at Angsana Bintan on Trip advisor.

I would like to sincerely apologize that you were not apple to use the beach during your stay with us. Due to the monsoon time lots of debris are being washed on shore. We have a permanent dedicated team on the beach with the responsibility to constantly clean and to keep the beach clean.

Thank you for your positive comments regarding the service and our associates smiles on their faces.

Looking very much forward to welcome you back to Angsana Bintan in the future.

Our family of four booked 2 rooms, for 2 nights at this resort as a quiet birthday celebration for one of our members.

We really enjoyed the pool, the quiet stretch of clean beach for a nice evening walk. We were also able to patronise Treetops restaurant at adjacent Banyan Tree, with transport between the 2 resorts taken care of by Angsana and a buggy service provided by Banyan Tree. We also spent quite a bit of time in their 'games room' (I'm not sure if the resort has an official name for that place). They provided us with a variety of board games, carrom and table tennis that we could enjoy as a family. Thumbs up to that facility.

I liked the breakfast spread..quite a varied selection and the food tasted good. The staff also pulled out a surprise birthday cake (we had not informed them about the birthday in the family or requested of anything from them) and gathered around our table and sang 'Happy Birthday'. Guess it's standard protocol, cus they did it for the next table too, where there was a little kid celebrating his birthday. It was a good cake too!

The only thing marring my memory of this resort, is the bat that was clinging to my arm while I slept on the first night (We had not opened the balcony door at all as we spent most of our day in the other room. So the bat must have gotten in earlier and hidden somewhere). While I'm an animal lover, this is something that had me running out of the room, frantically calling for room service from the other room (no one at the reception and trying to explain a bat in the room over the phone was a chore). A groggy staff member picked up the bat with a piece of cloth and left the room without a word. An experience that gave me a whole new meaning to being one with nature! :)

Room Tip: Check your rooms for bats or other creatures as the resort is surrounded by vegetation.

Me and my partner had a fantastic weekend! We went on an overnight trip just to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. We were so relaxed and everything was just wonderful! The staff were very friendly and helpful. I especially love how they put an effort to line our bed with flowers and gave us a free cake in our room because it was our honeymoon. This resort is indeed top class! Very highly recommended.
