“Good place if only for Chilling out...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2011

Went there on a 3d2n trip with the family.

Even though the resort is shown as a beach resort, there is no beach there. Every house/room/thing is built on stilts, much like a kelong/kampung concept. The rooms were all made of wood and situated on a hill, which requires the guests to walk quite a distance from their rooms to the lobby. For people visiting the resort, I would recommend that you bring along an umbrella at all times as there is no covered walkway to lead you to your rooms. Once it rains, you would be stranded until it stops.

We had 2 beach cottage front rooms which overlooked the sea and the Spa. The rooms, which were side by side opened out to a common balcony, which was a good place for chilling out. However, walls of the rooms were so thin that we could hear other people from the other side, even when they were just talking or bathing. Much lack of privacy. In addition, the rooms were tiny. The room only had space for a queen-size bed in a corner, with a table infront. The little fridge was placed on top of it as there was nowhere else to place it. The TV even though LCD was rooted to the wall. I was lucky that the TV reception in my room was good as the one next door was horrible. The whole family had to then squeeze into the tiny room in-order to watch TV together. Even though the resort provided free WIFI, I was unable to use it from the laptop. It was too slow. I was only able to use it through my android phone, as it took ages to load a page. In addition, I was only able to get WIFI in my room and not at any other location at the resort.

The food at the resort was not as bad as what I had thought from the other reviews that I had read. Some of them were yummy but the others, blah.. Similarly to the other reviews, the seawater pool/Jacuzzi was just horrible. It looked so disgusting that I would have rather gone to swim in the sea than in the pool. The water was a dirty green/yellow and it was still, unlike in a normal swimming pool where the water would be flowing in and out. Leafs and whatnot could be found in it and worse of all, you have to PAY to use the pool! It wasn't about the money but how can a resort charge their guests for using something that seemingly has not been maintained and is gross.

Spa Villa, was a cheap alternative to the ones in Singapore and was really good! The strength that the therapist used was strong and consistent throughout the whole massage session that I had. Their body scrub and massages were much better than the one outside NagoyaHill Shopping Centre; which I think was called Eska (even though they are even cheaper).

There was nothing much to do at the KTM resort other than the spa sessions. Shopping was a 25-30min ride away, which cost about 80-100k rp without the shuttle bus. The shuttle only brought people to the mall at 1pm local time and picked them up at 5pm local time, which was not enough time for us to do our shopping and other treatments.

I think that a 2d1n stay at this resort would be fine just for its spa services and chilling out in a relaxed environment but if you are looking for a shopping trip or one for water sports, staying at another hotel/resort would be more viable.

Room Tip: The beach cottage fronts provide an unblocked view of the sea.

We booked a 2D1N stay as packaged by Spa Villas, which is situated inside KTM resort for 4 ladies to enjoy a relaxing spa and a quick getaway from Singapore.

They gave us Family Cottage 2 with a sea view that was partially blocked by a tree (Cottage 1 has an unobstructed seaview facing Singapore!) which is alright by us. The cottage is clean and cosy and the 2 rooms (1 with Queen bed and 1 with 2 single beds) had their own attached bathroom and shower stalls. The beds are comfy and clean enough.

Amenities include a small electric kettle, free tea and coffee, teaset for 4, a small fridge, bottled water, an electric cooker, a kitchen sink... All in all a good deal for the price we were paying. The bathroom had 2 clean (although a bit old) towels and even toiletries to use.

The resort is located very near Sekupang Ferry terminal (new and modern) - it took our driver around 5-10 minutes to get to the resort. The lobby staff had good command of English and were helpful and friendly.

In the resort there is a very sad outdoor karaoke stage and set up beside the sea water pool. The pool claimed to be therapeutic but the murkiness did not seem appealing enough for us to try it out. A convenience store selling stuff like beer, potato chips and ice cream opens till around 10pm I think.

There is free unlocked WiFi for the internet addicts. Not super fast, but it works. Taxis (old ones and drivers drive scary) are available to bring you to Batam Town about half an hour away, where Nagoya Hill shopping mall and the A&W are situated. For watersports and go kart, you should head to Waterfront City but it is lousy for shopping.

Great for families and couples for a fuss free weekend getaway that is value for money.

Room Tip: Family cottage 1 has a great seaview!

We booked our rooms via a online deal website. It cost really cheap. We were not expecting much for the rooms. Our room is FAR FAR FAR away from the main reception area. The good thing is that the room is clean and decently furnished; thou we had very bad TV reception. We had dirty towels. The food is really very BAD. The pool is terrible.

The excellent part of the trip 2D 1N is the SPA, good and cheap. we pampered ourselves from head to toe as we had nothing else to do.

We booked the family villa because it comes with a kitchen and we like to cook, especially me. Free wifi was also included. Their internet website made the place look fantastic, worth spending S$700 for two nights.
one thing I found odd was the fact that the resort insisted on settling the hotel bill on arrival. We were soon to find out why... the resort has no beach although they have so called beachfront cottages. The saltwater jacuzzy pool is just a pool without jacuzzy, the toilets stink so bad, the restaurant is a basic foodcourt together with plastic cutlery, the wifi didnt work and neither did the kitchen in the villa. We defintely feel ripped off at S$700 for the two nights and we are making a formal complaint to the tourism authorities in Jakarta. No more tourists should be cheated, enoug!

Rooms, pool, staff, food.....all are terrible. Really gives Batam a bad name as not all places are like KTM. NEVER STAY HERE - the staff are not helpful at all, the beds and linen are filthy and the food is some of the worst quality produce I have ever seen.
Cost has nothing to do with expectations - KTM fails in every area.

Although we had the best of rooms, the hotel staff called us and asked us if we can move to a family room as there were two families.. We told them that we will get there and then decide depending on the location and views from the room.. When we got there, we told them that we needed our original rooms and they said that those rooms were already sold off.. At the end, we had to settle for the family room.. The rooms are great and so is the view, but the staff need a complete course (no crash course will help) in how to handle guests.. A lot of guests have mentioned that the SPA is great, but its nothing close to great.. Again that too is very average.. Food not the best, although they do believe in bringing the food really fast to your room.. The toilets are a not small, but at the same time, not large.. Cant complain about the toilets as they were clean..

Room Tip: Choose the ones right next to the lagoon.. Not sure what they are called, but they have the best vie...

This is the place to go if you wanna relax and aren't too fussy about rooms.

To be sure, the rooms are nothing to shout about. They are like log cabins, and are very, very basic and rather small.

For the older folks, they may find it difficult to keep climbing stairs as the rooms are all elevated.

I could also hear what the folks next door were saying; the walls are thin.

That said, the resort was incredibly relaxing. Situated right at the sea, be sure to try the spas. As you lay there in the spa, you'll hear the sound of the waves crashing against the rock. Just look out of the window and you'll see the open sea, and in the distance, Singapore. Yes, you can see Singapore from here if the weather permits.

The canteen area (I hesitate to call it a restaurant) is breezy and relaxing too. Just order some seafood and enjoy the wind on your face. Really nice.

All in all, an economical place. Good if you want to relax and aren't concerned that you're not getting a luxurious place.

Room Tip: The Family units are situated further back, and perhaps, slightly more stairs involved.
