Nice place in a mall, price is good, taste is great. Must try! Many selection of noodles, the rice and the super size option is very good. One in Galaxy Mall and one in Lenmarc. All good!

Shichidon surprisingly good! Before I went to this restaurant, i have to admit that i craved for Gyutandon since the day i came back from Melbourne! I heard that Shichidon serves Gyutandon. I read good reviews and only 1 bad review on trip advisor... So here we go, off to galaxy mall to try their gyutandon and ramen.

When i got there, wow.. The interior is really good! Design people in Surabaya really step it up! Good work and with all the tiny details... Wow! From the fact on field, i saw that they offer such a very low priced package... Only 30something thousand rupiah for a complete curry set with free flow green tea. But i'm on a mission, so i focuses on ordering a gyutandon and a spicy ramen called akai. In contrary to what 1 reviewr said before, they are well equipped with credit card payments and even the new bca flazz payment, so i guess there could be some business competitor wants to give bad review on Shichidon. You got to proove it by youself.

All the dishes were great, i'm surpised with thier price.. My bill is around 95rb rupiah or 99rb

The gyutandon was a solace or you can say "pelipur lara" compared to melbourne's menya, but this is the best i can get in Surabaya hellooo? Score 8 out of 10, while menya's score is 10 out of 10.

The ramen was so so, i would score 6 out of 10. I've tasted better ramen in singapore. Ippudo is the best

Don't let the decor fooled you...
my wive and i were caught by the decor since it seem fresh and something new that offer japanese ramen shop.

Something always went wrong when the first impression once you walked in the store already sprung up.
we walked in and no one greeted us or point us the direction... so we sat and waited for server or waiter to take our order... few minutes passed by and ..... then we found out from other customer that they don't take your order at the table, instead you have to come to the counter which is located at the back of the restaurant.
also noted we came around 7:30 pm and few items on the menu's are already sold out and/or not available. very dispointing....

so we decided with the signature dish, which is ramen and my wife tried the chicken curry and two hot green tea. then we paid in front and they only take cash... (c'mon... it's restaurant in a reputable mall, not food stall... they should have at least a debit machine installed either BCA or Mandiri).
So we paid anyway went back to our seat waiting...
around 10 minutes later the drink arrive... luke warm green tea!
i was like "excuse me...., i ordered hot green tea" and the server response were... "our green tea is like this..."
then i asked if i can get hot green tea instead and the server insisted that they don't have hot green tea. *i was like baffled, how can you make green tea without hot water? instant green tea crystal from sachet that disolved when you stir?*
then i requested i would like to buy a glass of hot water instead (considering i was feeling under the weather and chose this restaurant for something hot and steamy), and the response i get is.... i'll be back. i saw they were talking around the clerk counter and one person come and told us that they don't have hot water. "WHAT?!? how can make tea for once, and how can you make ramen without hot water?...."
oh well, not my luckily day i guess... then we wait more for our food to come and after like 25 minutes..., the chicken curry come about... but not without the ramen i ordered.
we waited more while i getting more grumpy, i don't know what happened in the kitchen but it seem like every minute seem like 15 minutes long....
i have to asked twice before the ramen i ordered arrived and suprisingly it wasn't good at all.

Food Review on the supposedly Signature Dish:
Small size in comparison with other japanese ramen dishes i tried at other japanese restaurant, the soup was bland (very little miso in it), the meat wasn't even marinated well (the center of the meat was dry and bland) and suprisingly the noodle was overcooked.

then i tried nibbling on the chicken curry, i wasn't suprised by then that the chicken curry rice was also disapointing. it was lack of spice and the portion isn't even worth the price they charging.

i don't know what the owner/s are thinking opening a japanese ramen shop with mediocre quality dishes at best and i haven't got into the unfriendly and bit ignorance staffs working there.

i don't go to japan often, but i'm an avid japanese food lover and so far this restaurant is one of the few worse i've been and it's such a loss since their menu list could be potentially great.

If you want to find somewhere nice to eat Japanese restaurant, but you are on a budget, here is a good place to go
My favorites are the rice dishes, which coincidentally why the name the place Shichidon, as in Gyu Don, rice dishes in Japanese ends with -Don
Food here costs as low as Rp 25.000 on a curry package, on this time of writing they have a lunch promotion
