Big museum, beautiful old architecture. In the night the lights illuminate the building, which is recommended over the view during daytime.
A must do, since you will see a unique heritage not only for the country but in general. Some of the pictures are a very good piece of history and if you go between 10-11, you have a chance to see the shop floor in action - and that is impressive.
Was struggling as to whether to visit this place. However, realistically there are few REAL tourist attractions in Surabaya so ended up going to this place since we had rented a taxi for the whole morning and we still had time. The building as well as the interior decor was stunning architecturally, and the photos/artifacts in the house would walk you through history (think old printing machines / old cars). Make sure you walk into the cafe too just to see what it is like inside, even if you are not going to eat there.
They take great pride in promoting tourism in the city and offer three FREE bus tours (90 minutes max each) each day on the monuments/sites of the city/area. Check their website for details.
Although it will be controversial in these days healthy living, in the museum depicts a classic rags to riches story of man from China making a successful life in Indonesia selling cigarettes. The museum houses several items and photographs of yester year. Through the glass window you can see the girls hand rolling the cigarettes. The restaurant next door which is part of the famous Semporna company serves quality food at a price.
Surprised when the first time I open the entrance door. All interesting things that was historical and pictures full with history. You should also see the washroom, cool!
You can also see the factory of Sampoerna from the second floor and buy merchandise.
Also try their restaurant, with affordable price, you can get a good quality food and drinks, although when I came the wi-fi internet was not working, and the staff was not even bother to help, a bit dissapointed.
