If you love architecture, you should try Semarang. Really. The old town of this port city has recently been attracting names such as 'Little Netherlands' and 'Little Amsterdam'. While there is a degree of hyperbole in this, Semarang's old town is a delight for history lovers and we hope that the attention of culture vulture tourists well aid in its preservation.
Dating from WWI, this insurance office building is a delightful colonial structure. Located across the road from Semarang's famous Blenduk Church, it was designed by Herman Karsten, a notable colonial architect, and has survived in good condition for the best part of a century.
