This is clearly one of the lesser of Java's temples and would barely be worth mentioning but for the location. This little Buddhist stupa, made from volcanic stone, dates back some 600 years and was clearly a marker for a freshwater spring, which has continued to flow until the present day.
The real reason to come here is for the walk to the spring and temple from the main road. It takes you along the clear mountain stream which runs from the spring, with groves of bamboo on one side and vivid green rice paddies on the other. The pretty countryside scenery makes a visit here worthwhile. It is easily combined with a trip to nearby Candi Singosari, the area's best temple complex.
